Friend at work was telling me about a little off, he had over Christmas.

A low speed <5mph lowside due to black ice on a roundabout in a leisure centre ( so an untreated road)

the bike in question i believe was an S1000 XR

The damage was RH fairing, engine cover, exhaust , nothing broken, just a few scuffs

The exhaust had a 10p size scuff in the ally cover

Bike was rideable and taken to the dealers (main) for repair

He got a copy of the bill sent to the insurer last week

Anyone care to give a start figure for the repairs

??

Similar with my wife’s car!
13 year old Audi A1, car reversed into it at slow speed causing several small dents and scratches in rear door.
Insurance say repairs will cost £4,500 which is 75% of the value of the car so they’ve written it off!
Local bodywork garage reckon £500 to sort it so in discussion with insurance to keep car from being designated ‘N’.

My guess is £3000

My wife had a very low speed bump in crawling traffic, she ran into the back of another car driven by a female teacher with a child in a car seat, there was no damage at all to my wife’s car, my wife admitted responsibility. The insurance company said do you want us to keep you informed about how things are going ? She said yes, 18 or so months later the claim had reached over £250000, the teacher was claiming PTSD and was unable to ever work again due to what might of happened to her child if it had been a worse collision.

What’s included in the claim ?

Exhaust 1500 ?
Engine cover 500 ?
Fairing 1000 ?
Labour 1000 ?
Rental bike or car 2000 if a bike ??

We’re the forks damaged ??

No damage to forks, and no car or bike in the interim,

Farking hell
£1/4 million that’s cool, but outrageous

A few years ago I had a Vespa 300gts thingy we use to tow behind my camper

It was knocked over in a car park in France.....only damage was skuffs to the handlebar and side panel from where it hit the floor, wasn't even dented.

Insurance wanted me to use their repairer, so for speed and conveniance I did, I can't remember why but they sent me the repair bill cost before they carried out the repair (was all being paid by their insurance).

£2500, fricking bike wasn't worth that.

I rang insurance and refused to allow them to repair it at that cost, I said the company must be committing fraud as in no way would it cost that much to repair. They just weren't interested, so I got the bike back and took it to a Vespa dealer in Bournemouth and had the repair done

£350 and that also included a service which he added to the bill

Insurance company paid up but did not care that their repairer wanted to charge 10 times the cost

Hastings Direct!!

Thats mad as a lad I work with was knocked off his bike just over a year ago, shattered his leg (was hit side on by a guy turning into his drive at less than 20mph). Not mates fault in anyway

Got £80k and thats it....took over 8 months to get the frame holding his leg together off and now has an amazing scar from where he had the bone sticking out and they had to do skin graphs etc. hates wearing shorts now.

So how the fuck she got £250k is madness

Teachers are clever
we get it from our students :)
2 years ago I over estimated my spatial awareness trying to swing the estate into a tight hospital car park space. Wishing to avoid the Porche Cayenne, I opted for the rear passenger door of a large Volvo XC 1 or another. Massive dent in the Volvo door. Few scratches on the Beemer. Just then I noticed the lady sitting in the Cayenne, with open window looking on. "didn't quite see that happening" said I. Anyhow insurers estimated £2500 damage to our estate. I got a local detailer to come around and fix it. £200 and 4 hours later, you'd never know I brushed a hedge. Result..

50% of the bikes cost to replace some plastic panels and an exhaust back can.

I think this surprises no one.

I might be a simpleton but I grew up with the concept that if I damage my vehicle on my own, I'd fix it with my own money.
There is no magical cornucopia dispensing free cash.

I said it into another thread, how the motor insurance gravy train operates in the UK is extremely similar to how health insurance operates in the US. It's an artificial market and just pushes up the prices of parts and services.

Comprehensive insurance might have pushed a lot of people claiming even the most minor scuffs they caused themselves (they're not paying aren't they? - that's the thinking) that feed and grew the market.
