i just got a quote from the local dealer for a 20,000km (12500 mile) service.

£630 inc rear pads, all fluids inc servo brake, engine, gearbox, FD oil, and airfilter.

cheeky twats want to charge £20 for the FD oil!! :eek:

think ill sit down to recover and then phone the dealers in germany, at least i can claim the VAT back and save another 16%
 
Thats why i tock my 2010gsa bsck to the uk for the 6000 m service:thumb
 
swissrob....VAT is 19% now in Germany. I just pick my '09 up from the dealer for it's 12,000 mile service. Euro 268.51 (without VAT) for service to include oil (Elf moto 10/50), oil filter, final drive oil, air filter, valve adjustment, synchronization, and assorted bits. They also performed the clutch service bulletin for free (I was getting air in the hydraulic fluid due to vibration).

yes the vat is 19% but you dont get back 19% when you claim

you just pay the before vat value which is not a saving of 19% its about 16% of the total value.

Just returned from la Belle France - mate's 2006 1200 GSA battery went - new BWM battery - that'll be €150 please.

A bit late now, but any suggestions for a cheaper 1200 battery?

Oh I know that feeling - the stealer here in Geneva wanted 1200 chf for a 40K service on the 1150! Nice dealer in Lyon did it for significantly less.

But don't forget the 'Swiss Homologation' so it must be all nice and proper now....
 
€76 for a set of rear brake pads from a dealer in Kaprun this summer. That wasn't fitted.

I nearly fainted....

Wow... that sucks! :eek: I've still got 7500km till then. Any ideas for a place for reasonanly priced tyres? (are the words 'reasonable' and 'price' allowed in the same sentence in Switzerland...? ) :rob
 
no expect to get raped with a spikey stick for any product in switzerland.

eg i have just ordered a set of rear pads from an online seller in germany - total cost inc post to switzerland was €21/ 28chf ferodo aftermarket. Local motor factor inc a 35% company discount want €36/ 50chf before tax!

i always go to germany to buy parts as its cheaper (but cant claim tax for non fitted technical items) or to have the car serviced.

I had a tyre fitted a while ago and it was half price compared to tyre dealers in CH, and i clamed the vat back so an even greater saving.

for tyres I would look on the french side but they also have quite high prices.

yep dont buy BMW .. bm wanted 180 euro, i found a yuasa for €55 but i could wait for it to be delivered, if you are on a trip and it dies then i would have paid also.
 
Expensive service here in Norway too. That's why I buy service parts from UK and tires from online dealer (http://www.moto-tyres.co.uk/) half price compared to local. Just had to buy a new battery this spring, BMW dealer €155, Exide battery (type YTX14-BS) €90. By the way, the original battery from BMW is also Exide (Exide Technologies, http://www.exide.com) They have local dealers worldwide.
 
Tyres in Geneva - I bought a set of Tourances from Round and Black off ebay for 120 quid and brought them out here. The local dealer squealed like a stuck pig when I asked if he would fit them (he sells the same tyre for 520 CHF inc fitting - about 400 quid). I had them fitted by a small M/C tyre fitter in Annemasse for a few Euro, a saving of about half.

If you give Round and Black a call you might be able to do a deal on postage (and minus UK VAT) but remember that Swiss customs will hit you for another 7.5% plus handling of about 30 - 40 CHF. You have to love a protectionist society.

I do a lot on the internet, largely from Germany with the Euro low. The UK is also helpful with the low pound. Recently saved about 300 Chf on exhaust bits by using Motor Works. The downside is that you are supposed to have Swiss Homologation for some bits (like braided brake lines) which adds at least an extra 100 chf on everything. They don't accept TUV - those Germans are just not reliable...
