My mate got an 06ish standard 1200GS a week or so ago and has been moaning about front brake squealing, so I told him to bring it round and I'd check it and clean the calipers, copperslip the pads etc.
I gave it the once over, and found that pads were worn and one of the front pads only had about 1mm of meat left! nearly down to the metal.
Checking the back end there was play in the back wheel (definate mot failure amount)- this point to blame - cant remember the name of it hence the picture!

The point of this is, the bike was supposed to have had an 'annual check' by Coopers of Sunderland just before he bought it, and apparently the service book has been stamped, if this is so what exactly have they checked? Because they certainly havent checked the condition of the brakes or the bearings if an amateur like me can come along and at once see a problem.
I am a bit peeved.

my front brakes squeels (071200gs) and its getting sorted now although it has plenty meat on the pads.

if i was your mate i would go straight back and very politely ask to see the service manager and ask him to explain why these faults have been missed, obviously someone has not been doing their job properly

ask him what else has been stamped off and not looked at .

That is pretty much what I told him to do!
