Great write up, I did a similar route last year although not covering as much ground as you.

Yes a stunning lake that one near Embrun.
I also love the Mont Cenis pass and the lake up there is equally blue on a sunny day.

Yes, it was quite popular with the locals and they were impressed I had ridden it all the way from Bristol, I didn't always remember to mention that I had trailored it most of the way
