The bikes due an annual service in the next couple of weeks & I'm trying to work out how the dealers come to a price of £260 give or take a bit. Id like to get the 12000 done at the same time even though I'm a few thou short, but god knows what the cost would be.

Looking at the service book all the annual entails is a diagnostic check, oil & filter, Brake fluids & a road test.

I take it all the cost must be labour for the brake fluid change as the rest cant take any more than an hour.

Looking through the manual theres nothing difficult about any of it, so why the high costs involved.

I would do it myself, but as the bike is only 12 months old I'd invalidate the warranty. How many owners of bike which are less than 2 years old do the work on their own bikes? If I were to do all the simple tasks oils filters plugs etc using genuine parts, and let the dealer do the diagnostic checks, would the warranty still be valid?

Cheers

You say the annual service but is that 6K or 12K miles?

Certainly for the 6K/12-month service that is approx twice what I pay for parts/labour.

I did the 12000 myself, still within warranty but obviously couldn't get the book stamped. I then made a warranty claim (rear suspension, fork brace, throttle cable, fork seal) and there was no problem with the warranty being honoured. Maybe because those particular items are not service related. If the gearbox had gone it may have been a different story.

Hi Big Al

Its only due the BMW Annual, not a 6K or 12K. its only on about 8K at the moment, but the Brake fluid is supposed to be changed every 12 Months.

Who do you use?

Baz,

Changing the brake fluid on the pre evo brake GS's takes no time at all. I don't see any reason why it would be any different on the bikes with the evo brakes. The tank needs to come off, but once that has been removed, the rest of the job should easily be done in about 20 minutes, especially as the dealers will have the appropriate service tools.

If you do decide to do the work yourself, buy genuine parts from your local dealer & keep the receipts as proof.
