The airhead has quite a few aluminium parts, so now I am wondering what are all the parts I can have anodised instead of having them painted.

Here is what I was thinking so far,
lever mounts
battery box
starter cover
footpegs

rocker covers??

what do think??

battery box and footpegs are steel, so they'll need to stay painted, or plated perhaps.

Ooops, quite right. I meant airbox :augie

Must be talking about the older Airhead's?? The g/s & GS have plastic air boxes.. Don't they????:nenau

You might find that the grade of aluminium is too soft to take a good anodised coating with the exception of the leaver mounts maybe. Have a go and let us know how it turned out.

Val.

Don't even think of having any old stuff anodised, unless they are spares, and you don't really care about them too much. You'll spend twice as much cleaning them as having them anodised, and they might still turn out shite.

Get a tin of paint:thumb2

I think there was some anodising done on here

I usually powder coat most things including the switchgear mounts.

The lower part of the airbox is aluminium

Easy to tidyup after using nitromours, a stanly knife blade and a fine paintbrush

Don't powder coat your rocker boxes though it holds far too much heat.

With powder coated boxes

Without

You want as much heat has possible dissipaiting from the heads.

Air boxes the bottom section is Ali, the top section with the trumpets is Plastic :thumb
Foot pegs are steel just buy after market SS or Crome Pivot pegz.
Levers could be cheaper aftermarket or OME.

Ali parts powder coat or twinpack as they are already painted just get the paint stripper out and see:rob

Oh, that actually isnt my bike, just using as example. That belongs to a friend of mine in Namibia. Been trying to get hold of him to hear what he did to the parts, but I think He may be out riding.

Nice bike and looks right for the job,but an " interesting" choice of tyres for the bush. Unless its mainly on tarmac:augie.
