After a fairly long ride to the Lakes area yesterday, around Kendal - to meet up with sanemancured and his partner, Linda...............I fancied an afternoon out a bit closer to home
So...............an early lunch and out on the XChallenge, my aim was to ride from Thirsk, in and around the A170 towards Pickering.............never straying more than a few miles from the main A road
I wanted to seek out some pretty villages, basking in spring sunshine and a few trails to spice it up, within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park
Starting off from Thirsk, this trail is only a few hundred yards from the A road.....yet could be a million miles away and hardly anyone knows of its presence
Now crossing over towards the pretty village of Boltby
Splendid view
Back across to Kilburn.................and Yorkshire's famous White Horse
Unsuitable...................we''ll see
Halfway up is a bench, with an obligatory view for all to see
This is a lovely trail, that leads to a secret folly or chapel to the WW2 dead & fallen
John Bunting - a famous 20th Century sculptor, built this chapel
Here's some history about him
http://www.johnbunting.co.uk/index.html
Some info specific to the chapel................well worth a walk up

Onwards toward the village of Rievaulx, another trail with a beautiful old stone bridge...............another architectural find and now forgotten.... from a bygone transport age
Then a quick refreshment break @ Helmsley amongst the sports bikers..........how much have they missed by staying purely on the tarmac
A few trails in and around Kirkbymoorside and then through Lastingham to Pickering, finishing with this old drovers road
Lovely afternoon of pootling, not 30 miles from home at the most..... on a great motorbike to explore all those lost and hidden roads....................can't beat it
If anyone would like to join me, one fine day from May onwards...............I'll do a ride one weekend
