On the annual New Year trip to my brother's I had the annual New Year bike breakdown fiasco. Why does it always happen within a ten mile radius of Norwich on a public holiday?
6th gear has always been a bit "slippy" when rev'ed on my fourth-hand '99 GS (35,000 miles). I lost all acceleration going up the A11 and had to pull into a petrol station. Left the bike there for hogmany and forgot about it to enjoy some good cheer. In the morning had a look at it - I know nothing about bike mechanics but the clutch fluid reservoir seemed a bit low, opened it up and it was empty. Topped it up, but it hasn't helped in the slightest. If I rev the engine in first the bike pulls forward a wee bit but not what you could call "making progress". The bike was stinking like a burnt out 1970s TV.
Clutch failures seem quite common from posts I've read here. Bit peeved to say the least. Anything I can look at myself before I get in touch with Steptoe?
