My usual helmet of choice is an Arai Quantum, this is an excellent product, reasonably quiet, very comfy and almost free of annoying little draughts; hell they are expensive though! I thought it about time to find a replacement so I got a Lazer flip-up with the slide down secondary dark visor, its not the best tool in the box and the visor is vert flimsy, the seat belt buckle keeps moving in the strap so it feels less secure; this despite mods to stop the strap slipping. Anyway after looking at the various stuff at the BMF and deciding that far too many people had been trying on the helmets for sale, I stopped of at Martyn's motorcycles in Mansfield Notts. After 10 mins I'm equipped with an HJC CS-12 Street Fighter Helmet normal retail £89.99 Martyn's charged me £65 for this years model helmet and not a 2-4 year old stock age cast off as i could have bought at the BMF.
Ok the first thing some of you may say is 'cheap hat cheap head', but I have to say that the interior is quality stuff and the shell and visor are very well made. The finish is excellent inside and out, it has the good old D ring fastening, the vents and helmet tested by me at a not unreasonable high speed are faultless. The fit of this product (I'm an Arai shaped head- had a Shoei but never really liked it) is as good if not a little better than my Arai Quantum. The visor stays in whatever position you like it to be, it's draught proof and I cannot mist the visor when the breath guards in place; this incidentally is fed by two side vents which contain easily adjustable slide vanes to let more or less external air in, the system is backed up with rear exits for the through flow ventilation. Nothings broken (yet) the whole thing is sturdily made and both top and chin vent controls can be operated with gloved fingers easily. £65 quid that leaves me £334 off of the £399 I was contemplating spending on a new Arai Astro J perhaps I'll buy some new MX boots (£165) and that still leaves enough for a bargain bucket 2 weeks holiday in some sunny hot spot or other.
