Following the international success (well I've used it in more than one country and it hasn't fallen off yet!
) of my 98P B&Q paint roller-tray Nav II sunshade,
comes the solution to the touchscreen/big motorbike gloves interface problem!
The blurb in the box suggests either a finger or a PDA stylus should only be used on the touchscreen.
At first I just used a self-adhesive P-Clip and put the stylus in it.
The P-clip held it secure enough but was a fiddle to get out of the clip and if you use the touchscreen while moving, there often comes a point when you need both hands back on the bars quickly. I was then left with the stylus in my hand until I could get it back in the clip.
Tethering it to the SatNav seemed the answer.
I used a very fine drill-bit and made a hole in the end of the stylus. Then a cut down diddy key-ring was used for a ring through the hole. A suitable length of nylon cord passed through the ring, crimped with the inside of a but-end connector and covered in heat-shrink.
For the end to be tethered, I used a ring connector, again crimped and covered with heat-shrink.
I used one of the mountings of the ram-mount as a suitable attachment.
It's out of the way when on the Ram-arm and Migsel Mount.
After experimenting with a couple of options, I settled for 3M self-adhesive velcro as the best way to store the stylus.
The 'soft' bit was wrapped around the stylus and a strip of the 'hard' or hook velcro was stuck on the Satnav.
Now I can just let the stylus drop on its tether or velcro is hit & miss enough to be able to stick it back on the Nav.
You can buy the stylus' in packs of two in most computer shops for a couple of quid so while it's not as cheap as the B&Q 'sunshade', it still doesn't break the bank!
