Just ordered a set of 27W 9 led 4.5" 2000Lumen round auxiliary projectors. I had the choice between flood (60°) and spot (30°). I went with the later. I checked many videos showing the light output and for $20.00usd a pair, it can't be beat. Denali or Clearwater at $300.00? Cough. Cough. Sorry for not being fashionable... ;-)

Many suppliers to chose from. I bought from that one.

That shall be good enough for those long rides in the dark back country. Even with HIDs, the stock 1150GS reflectors are poor.

30 degrees spread at 8 feet from the light?

that's gonna chuck fuck all in terms of illumination down a road :(

Have a think about it :)

You seem to fail to understand diagrams as well as the concept of 30° ;-) Look at the picture above. Seems pretty good to me.

They are a work light and will not throw the distance. They will make a big difference, but once you get over 60mph you'll be lacking the distance to really read the road far enough ahead

Mine are 4000lm units and have a narrower beam pattern and are good up to 80-85mph. Ok mine were £100 a pair but they are worth every penny in terms of build quality and light output.

Are you sure the reflectors are still in good order? I fitted good quality 35w HID's to my 1150 when it was two years old and the result was excellent. Dip had a razor sharp cut-off with a wide even spread right across the road and kicking up at the left to illuminate road signs, high beam was like a searchlight giving decent long range illumination for high speeds at night albeit with the strike delay when cold. HID's have come long way in the last ten years with fast strike etc.

Well. The thing is that I don't need projectors that throw light to the other side of the forest. What ever is pictured above is all I need. ;-)

Yes, I am sure the reflectors are in tip top shape. Compared to my K1200RS or my son's Honda Blackbird, the light emitted by the 1150GS is not very good. Riding by night on long distance, I definitely need auxiliary lights.

We're obviously after different things from a long range driving beam then....looking at your picture, I'd want a beam that goes inbetween those two v shaped trees and lights up the woods beyond them.
Just a rough estimate, but that flood pattern isn't penetrating beyond about 60 feet to where those trees are.

Absolutely.

I get much further down the road with the spot beam, but still get a good spread too (helps illuminate the vanishing point when negotiating twisty roads). It's still not perfect and the main beam HID is still required to get the real long distance, but the LED spots fill in the gap and add more diameter to the overall beam of light. Those work light type of lamps are cheap and will improve things substantially, until you start getting your wiggle on, then you soon end up wishing you could see further to aid with planning. For night time laning they are excellent, just a waste of time for fast night time road work.

These are similar to mine http://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...898468345.html?spm=a2700.7724857.29.82.9BnM92

Well one thing is clear, the OP knows what he wants, let the proof be shown after fitting - another photo required.
But it does beg the question: why do you want to go shining lights at vehicles parked up in the woods at night, which might contain scary monsters?
And I had better slip away and actually connect up my cheepo LED projector thingies before the summer comes back.

The number of LED lights available is getting silly now. There are tons out there and a vast range in price (even for what appears to be the same light). It seems pot luck what you get unless someone can give a recommendation.

Very true. Also number of leds per light. It's not about size or number of Leds but the quality of the leds and the reflectors. Hid is the same, lots of cheap shite and then some really good ceramic doodah top banana ones.

Who really cares how it got here?
