Down and left a bit.
The big girl passed the MOT today although i seen tester wincing in pain when he looked directly at the 50w HID dipped beam supplied by Les on this forum.

Still burning retina's after about 3/4 years with no probs, thanks dude...

Yep same here, passed with hid fitted and supplied by les a good few years ago. Mind the tester did comment, that as of next year it will fail with hid fitted as it does not have headlight wash and self leveling suspension.

Guess i shall have to stick a bulb in for next years mot

I've got my 1150's MoT coming up shortly. I was thinking that I ought to put a bulb back in now, but if you guys are getting passes with HIDs, I'll take mine into my local and see what happens.

Do any bikes have HIDs stock? If so, do they have washer and self-levelling?

Hi Greg, i asked the same question and the fella thought none were fitted at the factory like it. I had mine done at my usual mot centre predator motorsport in wgc.

The place that I have used for the last dozen years (G Matthews in Enfield) closed shortly after my last MoT - in fact I was probably the very last MoT they did.

Looks like I should head to WGC.

Fitting a washer shouldn't be too tricky. A bit of pipe correctly located with cable tie attached to a washing up liquid botttle would be the low tech approach.
self leveling suspension? Is that right? I think you mean self leveling headlight - I guess thats more difficult.
Probably it is easier just to put a bulb back in.

K1600 has a HID, I don't think Bikes do need the leveling or washer, but the whole unit needs to be have been 'approved' so a retro-fit HID is a no-no

I used to go there back in the day, they were a good bunch of boys who would let things pass if they knew you were the fixin' kind.

I drive past there about three times a week now and always remember trying out an air rifle whilst waiting for the test to finish.

I got the first part of my fleet successfully ticketed at Predator today - excellent value at £19.99.

The 1150GS isn't quite due yet but I'll be back there in a week or so.

If HIDs are going to be a no no for future MOTs then what does this mean out on the street? Can you get pulled over for having them fitted? Does anyone know?

To be honest fitting the low beam HID has probably been the best single mod i could have done. The difference between how much other traffic and pedestrians notice me approaching when compared with the standard bulb is significantly better (and I have it deliberately pointed low so as not to blind anyone). I would never want to change it back...it is so much safer. Also, because the dipped beam has the projector type lens the light is not scattered.
