Hello all,
Sorry for starting yet another thread on the subject, I did search but didn't find what i'm after.
I picked up my new to me '00 1150gs today.
It has a Sargent front seat (not sure which height one??) and I think a standard pillion one.
Basically, the distance between the seat and the pegs is a wee bit too short for me (6', 32/34 inside leg) and I would like to change it if possible.
I dont really want lower pegs so am thinking of changing the front seat.

Which versions of OEM or aftermarket will give a couple of extra inches?
Am I likely to find someone wanting to swap?
Or shall I buy a new one, then Ebay mine?
Any idea how to tell which Sargent I have?
Any idea what it might be worth? ?(I know, whatever someone is willing to pay for it ;) )

Cheers in advance,
Andrew

I don't think Sargent do different height front seats for the 1150GS. Though if I'm wrong I will soon find out. The difference in height between a Sargent and a standard BMW seat is about 3cm. the BM seat being higher.

I'm 6' 2" and for years managed with standard seat on high setting and airhawk pad and lower foot pegs. When I switched to Sargent seat again on high setting it was comfortable but gave me a back ache.

I've just had my standard seat recovered with softer foam at the same height as before so I won't need the airhawk pad.

There are plenty of after market seats available, Corbin is a popular brand for price and comfort. Touratech, and Wunderlich are a couple of others. Wunderlich do a low, standard and high seat. if you don't have the original BMW seat, you might be able to borrow one from this site to try. There are plenty of firms around the country who will refoam and cover seats to your specification for reasonable price. Even rework you Sargent. Personally I found the original seat good on height but hard on the arse.

All said and done I would not be without my lower foot peg kit.

You could try packing the Sargent seat up by adding spacers between the seat and the locating frame. You can even pack up the bike fittings a bit, but not much before they interfere with the locking mechanism. They give you height, but can look a bit naff.

Sargent seats should be easy to sell on, price is obviously dependent on condition. I would expect you to get over £100 given they cost £300 plus new.

Have a look on their web sites.

Hope this helps

I agree, that's what I fitted.

Just been on the Sargent web site. One size seat. They say it's 1/2 lower than BMW standard, but I don't believe it, I measured the difference in height and it's closer to 3cm.

Thanks for the concise reply :beerjug:
I'm now totally skint so can't stretch to the foot pegs at the mo which is why I was hoping to effect a swap for the Sargent ;)
I'm not too worried about the comfort of the standard seat- I rarely ride for more than a couple of hours at a time anyway.
I'll have to see if I can find a standard one to try.
Cheers for now,
Andrew
