After the premature termination to my part in Wapping's Black Forest Wander (details elsewhere) the bike was recovered to Patrick Metz in Besancon who diagnosed gearbox failure!:(
It was subsequently recovered to Rotherham:thumb2 where the top team there found that the U/J had failed due to ingress of dirt and water through the gaiter and torn the splines off the final drive.:blast

Heard from Steve this morning BM have agreed to provide the necessary parts (£1400 worth) foc! :clap:clap:clap

Thanks guys!:thumby:

I was gonna PM you Richard and ask how the bike repair was going.

It seems my original roadside diagnosis of sheared splines was spot on, the original gearbox diagnosis sounded dubious (presumably the French have no easy translation for 'splines'.)

I'm glad to hear that you are getting it repaired free of charge as I feel failures such as these shouldn't happen. Hopefully Rainbow will grease the splines during reassembly. Perhaps that new KTM isn't needed after all ??

FWIW I have just replaced my driveshaft with a used spare due to a split gaiter and water ingress, having seen your bike let you down during the 'Wander'. One of my UJ's was very notchy, I'm having it repaired in slow time by Mikeyboy.

Cheers Adam.
Should be picking it up tomorrow providng I can get a lift in.
If BM hadn't coughed up I would 've taken it to Mikeyboy but must say Rainbow have always looked after me (even offered loan of a GS if I "needed" one!) Can't fault that!:thumby:
