Another one stolen today from London 23 May 2014. Yellow, GSA with the panniers, 48k. If you are offered one in the next couple of days or engine/ bits cheap...it may be stolen. Id owned it since 6k on the clock, it was a Coopers demonstrator. Im gutted. You cant believe it when you walk out of work and its gone..I just hope they got a hernia lifting it into their truck or whatever. It was on a bike bay in Tabernacle street. Im now bollxd for getting to work for a while. I hate trains!

Bugger :(

I've always assumed older GSAs (like mine) were reasonably safe, even in London... I guess not

Was it parked in a spot you use regularly? Or was this a purely speculative theft?

It was parked in a motorcycle bay that I hardly ever use. Maybe 4 times a year. I only parked it there as the ruddy lifts were out in the NCP...I take it up to london every day...well. I did....

Well that sucks :( Was this during the day, or overnight?

I guess I will keep leaving mine dirty in the hope it is the reason mine has survived without any security.

It confirms my concern that I really shouldn't take my HP2 in to the city...

Sorry to hear that. Was there any security on the bike, such as chains etc? I only ask as I'm interested in learning what security measures work and which don't.

It was during the day and it only had the steering lock on. A bike that size was too much of a challenge...or do I thought.

A little centre stand skate under each wheel and it's moved. With an F off chain locked to a post at least they'll need special tools.

Sent from a widget that can't spell.

With two short scaffold poles, four blokes and an empty van it's even quicker.

A friend parked his bike outside his front door and popped inside for 30 seconds, as he emerged the van was disappearing around the corner.

*slowly shakes head*

Sorry to hear about the theft but anytime in C.London is a good time to lift a bike worth thousands whatever its size.

So sorry to hear that your bike has been stolen, I feel for you, the scum bags want shooting.....

Just checked out Tabernacle St on Street View (iMaps). When you browse up and down the road there's a fair few bikes parked up and on show, I bet the scroats cruise that road regularly to see what's available. Have you had a good look around the buildings near where you left the bike to see if it was covered by CCTV security cameras?

Hey Pat, sorry to hear your news - albeit a little late. I'm a lurker as I'm looking to buy a GSA in the next few weeks if all goes well - I hope you manage to find yourself a replacement without too much stress as well! I've got a feeling I might have seen your bike before it was stolen as I'm based in Paul Street.

A biking colleague knows of a few bike thefts in the area over the years (not good f. He has a Yamaha MT-01 which has a nice light 1700cc engine. He once came out from work to find it parallel to the kerb rather than perpendicular as he'd parked it! That was in Bonhill Street. I've also seen broken car glass a few times in Scrutton Street so car crime is also an issue.

Don't know if this is of help in future but I've seen a guy park his Ducati 1198/9 in Holywell Lane where there are a couple of off road styley car parks with a man in a hut! He's clearly worried about theft and leaves it right next to the hut.

Pat I'm very sorry for your loss (belatedly)

Please take a look at Skytag (Google them) when you come to replace.

They are a GPS based tracker system that can operate in a preset zone, in your case this could be a few hundred yards around where you park for work and you would be contacted if the bike moves outside that zone. If it's been taken the police are notified of its location by by the tracking company.

None of these systems are foolproof but I have had one on my camper van from new (last year ) and it's great peace of mind.

Good luck with the insurance/ replacement

(By the way I have lost two bikes to theft in my time)

All you'll end up with is a list (like those for tyres or, now, ear plugs) of bods saying anything from: "I use a ball of string" through to : "I use a Jumbo ManKiller lock" and everyone reporting that their bike has not been stolen.

When you look at the list, consider this: I keep a pound of butter in my fridge, to keep the elephants away. It works.

In short, just be sensible and take reasonable precautions. If YOU think YOUR bike MIGHT be lifted bodily into a truck; use a chain THROUGH some part of the body. If YOU think a disc lock or U-lock or nothing MIGHT do, use either one of them. If YOU think that someone with bloody great bolt cutters, acetylene lance or a bent paperclip might come along to render your precautions useless, consider parking somewhere else.

It's precisely because of that attitude that it makes the bikes easy to steal when the owners just turn off the ignition and walk away without any other deterrent.

When a customer takes my old 1987 K100RT loan bike they're given a lock and told to bloody well use it.

Wapping I don't disagree with your thinking but which of the above would recover your bike (and possibly also catch the scrotes) once your bike has actually been taken?

SKYTAG recently tracked a Land Rover within 1/2 hour of being stolen in the early hours and it led the police to a "24 hour MOT station" (yeah right) and resulted in 20 stolen vehicles being recovered and 12 arrests.

My camper van is skytag protected and I'm likely to add one to the GSA soon.

I know a guy who had his Evo taken off him! They simply parked it in a residential street to see if there was a tracker fitted - There was so he got his car back!
