Remember the Firefox hack that worked????

I've got another one for you....not browser based, this one is for any internet connection, but is particularly good for Broadband.

Download and run (you don't have to install) TCP Optimizer.

If you know what you're doing, you can tweak away to your heart's content...if you don't know, just tell it what speed your tube is supposed to be then hit the 'use optimised' button.......it'll backup your settings so you can revert to them if you don't like the results, then it'll tweak things for you and ask you to re-boot.

Do that, then sit back in wonder as your connection flies :D

It works :thumb

:clap :clap :clap :clap :clap

PS Normal caveats.....it worked well for me on my machines and I've used previous versions for dial up accounts for years, but don't go :thedummy if it doesn't work for you....use at your own risk ;)

that firefox hack.... it seems a bit quicker but i'm getting a lot of pics not appearing now.... i need to refresh the page to get them to appear or click to another link and then click back to the original page for the pics to appear

Hmmm perhaps it's making Firefox faster than the server it's looking at???

Have a tweak of the settings......put them half way back to what they were maybe??

Either of you guys use Fasterfox?

I've noticed the page-load timer has stopped working recently, possibly after 2.0.0.1

Yep....and you're right....mine's not showing the timer either...I hadn't noticed before :(

I've still got the little 'fasterfox' logo in the toolbar but nothing else shows :nenau

Just been doing some testing on another PC - it's Fotofox that busted Fasterfox.

The page-load timer is more important to me, so bye-bye Fotofox.

Ta for that :thumb

Have you tried the little 'right click menu' thing for uploading to Smugmug?

That seems to work quite well......I was using that before Fotofox :thumb

Most of these things optimise for download speeds by changing obscure network related settings to better suit the speed of broadband. One downside I have noticed is a bad one for online gamers and caused me to revert back to more standard settings after I made changes myself. I play a lot of Counter Strike: Source online and after adjusting settings my ping went through the roof while playing. Ping is the round trip time between your pc sending a packet to another pc and it replying back again. Sometimes these packets get lost, corrupted or your pc doesn't wait long enough to get them all and your pc has to request them again....not a pain for downloading as you hardly notice it and average download speed is still high, but re-requesting these packets drives up ping times and generally means you die in first person shooting games. Not saying it will be the same for everyone but just something to watch out for. As everything else was running so well it took me a while to work out what was causing it.

Cheers Chap

That is why I love this site :aidan If I spoke to a computer expert :blagblah It would have cost me

Now to down load some p%%n! :drool

Woking well on my laptop:thumb2
Zipping along like a wee zippy thing now. Cheers Bill

splendid!!!

wee hee , were flying now....the dogs doorlocks.
ive just tried speedtest. net, it doesnt seem to have increased the speed of the connection, but by eck it works much faster, still only getting a 3 meg connection, but im chuffed.

As the first thread on speeding up FF is now bumped, might as well do this one as well :)
