Mine did. It took BMW assist 8 hours to get me from Hexham to Amble. I was not amused to say the least.

Mine went only 20 miles from AJ's, back on the road in a couple of hours
......glad I wasn't in the middle of nowhere

No wonder it's in such good condition considering it's done 80K
Most parts have been replaced at least once

It indeed was the 80000 mile gs that descided to f/up in the bp garage in selkirk, at least the cafe was open, we had just been to st mary's lock and joked about charlies gs packing up in selkirk , anyway coopers checked and of course 05's never had that problem, I just wanted somebody to talk to on the way back and the truck had a heater.
Got new ring of internet £36 [coopers £76] and I will swap it today.
Before I changed it the bike started no bother , taking the piss but I'll change it anyway,
Anybody want to purchase an intermittent ring antenna £36 to you sirs.

Did the EWS sign come on the panel?
Last week, I bought a spare antenna for my '04 R1200GS even though "they never fail".
Even gladder I did that after reading the above.

yes the dash tells you it is f,,,,d, changing it is straight forward apart from the security screws you have to drill out as they are a tad hard

Don't forget to pack a drill along with your antenna and FPC when you go out riding then

If the problem is caused by a misread of the key try removing the key and walk twenty yards away with the key before retrying. I've seen this done when a bike was stopped beside a transmission line (high level of emf) on a BMW Offroad course in Wales. Always worth a try.

When I worked for datatool we had many cases where the signal was blocked by radio masts etc, it could be hard to get people to push their bike away and try again, they thought we were taking the p1$$.

Where did you get the replacement ring antenna from ... I have a big trip coming up in June, gonna take a new ring and a FPC with me, then I wont need them

I GOT RING OFF E BAY , SORRY THEY ONLY HAD ONE
NEW ONE WORKS OK ,
WE JUST DID 1000 MILES ROUND SCOTLAND OVER WEEKEND AND THE WEATHER WAS CHAMPION, APART FROM MY MATE LEAVING HIS HEATED GRIPS ON OVERNIGHT [HONDA], F,,,KING HEAVY TO BUMP START AND BEING An engineer ????? he rode 100 yards to the garage and he switched it off dohhhhhhhh. asked some fellow bikers from sunderland to give us a hand pushing the bike but they were in a hurry bastards and we are from sunderland, bikers,,,,,, twats,
anyway got jump start and away we go,.
on the outskirts of ullapool we came across a gs adventure on its side in a puddle so we stopped and give him a hand lifting it , i thought james [sir james burton] had some gear on his bike but this had every extra known to man including a deer whistle and strangely enough i didn't see any while there.
anyway if you want to see the best scenery and roads in the world get your arses ower the border.

Collected new GSA in March last year, the R/A went in July just a week before my five week trip around spain 
........ but get this .
Bike was collected by third party (Red House Service Station ) organised by BMW recovery who were too busy on that day to help me. Bike was ratchet strapped down by grips and rear wheel.
Bike arrived at Rainbow- Rotherham, taken onto workshop and they found that R/H heated grip was snapped and other one damaged and a deep scratch on L/H side of tank
. Rather than wait for BMW approval they replaced parts within a couple of days enabling me to make my trip ....(thats what i call service 
)
Went in at weekend for the brake pipe/ abs recall to be carried out and spoke with steve on service dept and whilst chatting he informed me that they (Rainbow) had to stand the cost of the parts for the damage (£200)
. as red house service refused to pay saying there was no proof it was damaged when they dropped it off (and BMW recovery apparently said it was not their problem

Although it was some ten months ago i offered to split the cost of the parts as i figured it was not thier fault and only fair, but they refused my offer as they said it was all sorted now.
Just goes to prove what many other say on this site that Rainbow they are a proper BMW dealership
