Anti-Pinch Pin

Hi,

Has anyone used one of these http://www.torc-anchors.com/anti-pinch-pin.php to secure the 800gs, It looks a much than easier trying to weave the security chain through the wheel or body of the bike frame if at all possible.

I am thinking of buying one prior to the arrival of my 800gs later this month, what I need to know is the width of the frame behind the cylinder block and is the gap big enough to feed the pin through?.

Big holes...

Had a look at that pin a week or two ago, and it looks as if it would fit through the lower of the two transverse tubes behind the engine. It would fit in the top one too if it wasn't for the plastic clip holding the brake pipe(s) secured through a small hole halfway along it, thus impeding the passage of a 23mm diameter rod.

I doubt if the extra thickness of the optional heatshrink would pass through as well, though. IIRC, I measured the internal diameter of the upper tube at 24mm. I'd imagine the lower one to be the same - I just didn't think to measure it at the same time.

BUT: I'd urge you to measure your own, given the unevenness of the welding around the ends of the tubes (and I might have made a mistake). Also, sorry, but I can't remember the length of pin you'd need - I decided against it for my own use, since I can get my chain through the frame on the RHS without too much trouble. However, an ABS equipped bike might be a bit more crowded in there, I haven't looked at one to check.

and furthermore...

...realised why I hadn't noticed the lower of the two transverse tubes behind the engine; I'd been looking at the right side of the bike. The right end of the lower tube is hidden by the plastic guard next the footrest. However, I suppose the pinch pin could be semi-permanently left in place if you were to remove the guard first, insert pin, replace guard. Might need to hold it in place with silicon sealant or similar to avoid it chattering and removing paint, or worse.

Info much appreciated, I will problably wait until the bike arrives then make an executive decision as to whether the pin will fit. I quite like the idea of keeping it permanently fitted to the frame.
