interesting AV comparison and test in computer shopper this month.

in short the best 2 were kasperski & steganos, with NOD32 just behind. steganos won as it was the same product as kasperski but somewhat cheaper, only 20 quid.

AVG free did ok, but was not as good as good as the above 3 by some margin. it was however significantly better than either norton or mcafee

Since these were 'bench tests' and not 'real world' malware exposure AND that the margins are so small, AVG free represents staggeringly good value esp compared to both 'Bloaters' (Norton/McAffee).
Many 'real' users, including me, prefer NOD32 ( a paid-for program ) for its simplicity, effectiveness and lack of interference whilst running.
