I'm finally a GS owner!!!
....or at least I will be next week.
Finally did the deed, but despite everything on this thread, I went for a standard 1200GS in the end, as I just preferred the way it handled and liked the power/weight ratio. The clincher was that I was offered a very attractive deal, that meant the equivalent GSA would cost over £2.2K more. I just couldn't justify that for the bars/screen/tank/suspension. Especially as, to be completely honest, it'll spend most of its time on UK roads.
I got cross spoke wheels, and every factory option except ASC (many for free due to the lack of bikes with my spec in the country). I'm going to fit engine bars, TT Zega ali panniers, and a BOS full system. Like ChrisF, I think I'll end up with a machine that is far more suitable to the sort of riding I'll actually do. The GSA is really impressive, and I'd love to think I'll do my own Long Way Round/Down, but in reality I'm more likely to tour Europe and North Africa. I'll leave the GSA stock for those that'll actually get up to their hubs in mud...and fast, due to the weight ;-)
I also think the 1200GS in Night Black looks fantastic. And, as we all know, looks are the most important thing.
Anyway, 7 days to go.... I'll become a paid up member of this site now.
