Was just looking at this thread a few minutes ago.

Are there any groups/services like this in the Rep? Not saying I'd get involved but was just wondering was there anything like this going on over here?

Seems like a good idea, although I expect the HSE is only too delighted to use ambulances etc for this role.

maybe if MAG wanted to do something to highlight bikers...

getting this running like it is in the UK would be a great thing, and provide a great service to the public

MAG response

Great replies already :)

as far as i know; no. There's nowt like it here.
I'd be happy to help if there was.
Not the same at all but,
nearest we got is some charity runs have Marshalls that give a lot of their knowledge, time and expertise. All trained instructors or Gardai - other than that :nenau

I'll ask a friend that knows more about the legal end (health and safety regs. ) why we've nothing like this - cant be the first time the ideas come up. (No offence essjay :beerjug: )

probly knocked on the head by health/safety/insurence/taxi driver/private ambulience issues. I would hope not but lets see what happens. I think hospitals use taxis a lot for this kind of thing. JJH

+1

I'd be up for it.

Blood used to be moved by the Blood Transfusion Service Board. I've seen vans around Dublin in recent times with some markings for moving blood but can't remember who was operating them.
I've worked private ambulances and don't remember them ever moving anything of that nature. But there is quite a bit of competition in that field now.

triying get a system set up in the civil defense for bikes but insurance is proving difficult

I haven't heard about any insurance issues John, our Dublin unit has two ex-British Army off road bikes, the issue we have seems to be getting the money to get them up and running, been sitting in a workshop since March waiting for a signature.

mind if ask what bikes your got? well i heard the quad was thron out window due to personal insurance risk.

as for 2 bikes the commander is pushing but head lad in the county is how you put it, a oversized tub of bull sh$t and feels if we going get a bike then has to be a big pan european as he like thoes ones.

well we want 2 off road bikes, my idea was a drz400 or the likes.

think cash is been put on hold so hard tell what will happen

Harley Davidson off road machines' their buried in the corner of a workshop in the city, according to our commander, they were running when they got here but neither are now:blast:blast

Over here we'd need to set up a committee to select a specialist consultation company to research the market.
They would then come back to the committee who after careful consideration would feel that this would be better served by a proper Quango.
Our newly formed Quango would examine the carefully constructed consultants report and decide that another report should be commissioned with their concerns examined in detail.
The said new report would now form the basis of the decision which generally is the opposite of the reports (especially if they make sense).

Eventually the decision is made that after exhaustive research costing millions "There is insufficient funds available"

So what gets done? Same as usual "Fu*k All"

Right that's my rant over for the day

if they being neglected and need work theni will happily fix them up. must say it to own commander now again and see what he says

info;

i asked a man in the know ;)
he tells me that blood runs / body parts and the like are done on a contract basis (no - not that kind of contract :blast ).
As in - the service is got by applications to 'tender' for the service.
So companies like Group 4 get the job.

The very idea of doing it using volunteers is alien to the authorities in charge.

Me too. Can't see the insurance problem - nobody's charging anything - just helping out.
:rob

Alas , That is not how it is viewed .

There Must be an Added Value for the goods to merit being transported
in the First place. With this consideration , it is considered
For "Hire and Reward " ..
The FACT that money does not change hands in the transaction is
"Considered" but not Applicable ,because of the fact that there
has to be an Added VAlue ,otherwise the "Good" wouldnt be transported.

Absolutely not . Dont assume that , Everything has / is being considered.

AGAIN , and this is not aimed at you ,,, BUT ,,, we have the biggest shower of W.A.N.K.E.R.S in the Civil
service in this country , they can always find some way to stop you in your tracks. For good or bad..
We as a NAtion came from a low level of "Public Service" where i reckon we were fine , to being over- regulated , even strangled .....
