I'm looking at how I could load my F650GS twin into a motorhome garage. The width of 875mm is OK but not the height. Even removing screen, mirrors, whatever it's still 1250mm high.

So what about removing the front wheel and replacing it with something really temporary just so I can wheel it into the garage?

I came across this dolly set. Might that work?

Any other ideas what to use?

Tim

You say the bike is still 1250mm high but not how high the apperture is that you need to get through:nenau

Can you not pull the front forks into full compression with a pair of ratchet straps.
I'm not fimilair with the 800GS front spindle, but if it is hollow, put a rod through and use this to run the strapping round and back up to the bars.

I have seen Basil (bloke from advrider.com) do something very similar with a KTM640ADV.....

Timpo.

F650GS (twin) front spindles are not hollow. There's a small recess on the underside of each fork that a ratchet strap hook could hold on to if done with care.

Putting a small temporary (scooter?) wheel in place would work but you'd reduce ground clearance, could become an issue when the front wheel clears a ramp if used, could catch on the underside of the bike?

As it's just for going in and out of your camper why not get one spun up out of a lump of wood that uses the exsiting axle - thatt way you could also experiment with size

Wheel barrow wheel?

all depends on the height of the sumpguard from the floor i suppose??

Lateral thinking, how about no front wheel.

Get a trolley made with a scissor lift action to go under the sump. Lift, remove front wheel lower and roll into garage.

How about dropping the forks through the yolks?

I used to take my XL250s to Wales for the Cambrian in the back of an old Renault Espace and had to undo the bars and slide the forks as far down in the yolks as possible to clear the roof,10 min job and it could still easily be rolled about.

I've had the same problem in the past.
Solved by buying cheapo Wheelbarrow wheel with Axle already on and undoing fork spindle clamps to fit instead of road wheel.
My mate now uses same idea but a wheel without axle placed over suitable diameter [to go through fork clamps] rod...
I now use the built in bike rack on the Hymer :D

some kind of rail and slider system secured into the bed of the garage maybe?

or what about seeing if you can get one of the cases the bikes are originally shipped in - I thought they are shipped with the wheels off?

I'd have shied away from compressing the forks too much as I thought that lead to blown seals, but having seen Possu's reply I might be wrong...
