hey everyone... I have an E450 Givi topbox and am looking for a luggage rack to fit on the top to carry extra bags on our trip to scotland in a few weeks... but Givi don't seem to make one for that model. has anyone come across an aftermarket alternative? cheers Rob:D

Which bike are you trying to mount to? Earlier this year I made a mounting plate for my GSA to take a Givi monokey case. I made two. Tried to flog the spare on here but no interest . The nicely finished version is now fitted to my bike, but happy to flog the other for a good price (is all stainless, inc all screws and pre drilled ready to fit). But is no good unless you have the single seat GSA set up...

If you drill into your topbox lid and put nuts on the inside. Be careful you don't mark/damage your lid if it's a tight fit..................... Just a thought.

An unashamed bump ;-)

But still unclear which seat set up you have?

thanks to everyone for all the suggestions... my old 1150 has two seats and it is a luggage rack that I can fit to the toplid of my topbox that I am interested in sorting rather than a fixing plate for my topbox to the bike as I have already managed that. sorry if this wasn't clear. the problem is that although Givi make racks for topboxes they dont make one for the model I have E450 whic is why I am a bit stuck... quite like the idea of using an oven grill though! :thumb

The oven grill is not a bad suggestion now is clearer what you're looking for. I'd try and found something in stainless or at least powder coated. Are there any top case racks from other brands of luggage that might work, not Givi? Touratech or Krauser for example?

I doubt if suckers would work as the plastic is not completely smooth.
Why not just get some small eye bolts and fix them through the lid with washers either side to spread the load then lash your luggage to them?

Absolutely simplest solution for your top box and your boxes as well for extra capacity. I always do that. By the way I thought it was very clear from your original post what you were trying to do.

Why do you need an actual RACK?

4x (6x if you want belt and braces) pad eyes and trifold rivets - it is what is used for rigging sea kayaks. If you want to ride over I will do it for you. Buy me a beer...£50 is a lot for what you can carry on the lid and pad eyes will do the job quite happily. You can lift the entire kayak up by one, the fitting is that strong. You MUST use trifold rivets though - or washer backed bolts, but the saltwater corrossion resistant rivets have lasted for 10 years in saltwater on my old kayak, so they are very secure and long lasting. It will take me about 10 minutes to fit them for you - and they won't leak either because I will seal them.:thumb

You need to watch the weight. If I had a top box full of stuff I am not sure I would want to add a lot more.

As a sea kayaker myself I concur with King rat. I only bought some eyebolts last week to do exactly the same on my boxes and top box. Ideal for lightweight bulky items. Put a good size washer backing plate on the inside of the top box. Bomb proof. Cost you about £6.00 to sort it out and a perfect solution.:aidan

How about some aluminium sheet and this fit from Givi to make your own rack plate.

I couldn't find one to go on my standard 1150 topbox due to it's funny shape on top so I made one! :thumb2 It only had my sleeping bag and pillow on it so hardly any weight. Took me and the missus down to the Alps with it on and it worked a treat. Got a few pics so I'll try and load some up.
