At 7900 miles I am still far from happy with the gear change on my 13 R1200GS.
Have any Irish owners taken their bike back to Duffy or Keary's for investigation?

15k on mine, and not too impressed with my gearbox either, 2nd to 3rd is the worst.

Mine is sweet as a nut so far, less than 1000km on it but in my experience of BMW gearbox's they only get better with mileage.

Not to digress ... but have you tried with adjusting the clutch lever setting to 4 and then trying the gear changes (this was a suggestion on another thread somewhere here as a suggestion). I am doing good on my LC with the lever setting at 4 (farthest away).

Twiddled every knob and switch on the bike,
if I put the bike in first and pull in the clutch there is a lot of clutch drag when i try pushing the bike.
I know BMW will say its my imagination but its not.
Otherwise a perfect motorcycle.

Asked Alan in Kearys if anyone had any issues and he said NO !!!. Mine has 16500 and not a problem

Suggest you cite UK problems and insist on fix or replacement

As above try position 4 and one finger shifting when warmed up workz great apart from coming to a stop...need two fingers for this.

IMO there appears to be something funny with both the clutch and brake hydraulics like the pistons are incorrectly sized for stroke as the more you pull the less you get.

I also swapped the stock shifter for the adjustable SW Motech piece..BIG difference in leverage and smoothness for my 2014.

I am running it now on No: 4 and it seems slightly better.
Do you have a 2014 bike?
Try pushing it in first gear with the clutch in and can you feel a lot of resistance (clutch drag)?
A lad here has a brand new Tiger 800 and the gears are sweet, when i push it in 1st there is no resistance.
I will leave it a Duffy and let them analyse the bike.
The gearchange will never be up to the standard of the majority of bikes on the road but if i can get an improvement on the clutch drag i guess that's the best i can hope for.

Delighted that you are sorted, don't have any gearchange/clutch issues myself but for those that do some information on what the problem was and how it was resolved could be useful!

I took it to the nice people at Duffy's. My bike qualified for a updated thicker shim in the clutch.
The bike is way better, the heavy clunk in and out of 3rd is gone.
Its still a BMW gearbox, nothing like any chain drive bikes i ride.
I am now satisfied with the bike and in my opinion the issue is resolved.
Other than the clunky gear change the bike has been perfect for 8000 miles.
I winter in Spain so it was used everyday over the last 2 months.
I am tempted to chop it in for the GSA this bike is perfect for us but i have owned 2 GSA's and have an itch for another one.

a updated thicker shim in the clutch. The bike is way better

hi. Thanks for the update. Was it a "shim" or a "clutch actuation rod" ?

and are you able to share the part number for the updated part.

that would greatly help those having these issues but cannot convince their dealers of it.

.

I was going to look at the old shim but forgot in a hurry to hit the road, its a 170 mile spin home from the dealer for me.
It was deffo a thicker shim, i will ask the question
