I need a simple job done, an ashcan for my Victorian fireplace.

Obviously doesn't need to be made to bike bit standard. Mild steel trapezoidal box with a little strap handle on the front. Stainless ones are around £60 for modern fires so looking to pay around the same, give or take.

Anyone here or can you recommend anyone in Nor or Suff?

Kind of like this

Mr Badger,
you could give these guys a call -they are located in Teversham, just outside Cambridge.
They cut some steel up for me , to a template, for a register plate for my woodburner.
Seem a friendly bunch, and happy to do small size jobs.

Good luck, and maybe see you on the Rideout on 28th ?

Thanks Jim and Rog

It's unlikely that I'll find one ready made even at a reclaim yard. t's a funny size and shape but thanks anyway Jim.

Rog - they sound good. WIll drop them a line and see what they think.

Won't be free on the 28th - pre booked alas. Thinking of a scone run in May though

Just like that but half the width at the back. It's an old master bedroom fireplace, rarely used nowadays.

I've had a pm from a fabricator so should be fixed soon. Thanks Julian.
