My better half currently rides a 696 ducati but is interested in the factory lowered 650GS ( the twin ). She is used to the riding position and is concerned the GS might not be a simple transition.

Ideally she needs a school with one of these where she can get some instruction and see if the bike is a realistic proposition as she is quite petite.

Can anyone help us out ?

Thanks in advance,

Chris&Beth.

I am pretty sure that the BMW off road school has them for 2009.
If my memory isn't failing me they offered us lowered F650GS for the course that my wife is taking. But she opted for the XCountry instead because it is smaller and probably easier to handle in a basic off road course.

If she is used to riding a 696 the new 650GS will be a doddle.
How tall is she?

Has she sat on one? Bahnstormers have a lowered one as a demo (or they did have) she could try. As long as she can get both feet on the floor and get it off the sidestand it should be fine.
The roads near Alton are not busy, she could take theirs for a test ride - It really will not be any more difficult to ride than the Monster - in fact she will probably find it easier ( but not as much fun!)
Or could you both take it out - and you ride it to a car park for her to try out.
Watch out for the brake/clutch levers. they can be a strtch for small hands - but easily remedied by buying adjustable levers.

Beth just scrapes 4'11 3/4" :)
Perfect for me but tough when it comes to finding a 'proper' bike that fits.

We took a GS650 out ( lowered version ) with her pillion and I liked the bike.

She was new to the 696 at the time and it took a while before she got comfortable with such a big bike - in comparison to the CBR 125 she took her test on.

I live about 6 miles from Bahnstormers but she's in Leeds and called her local dealer Alan Jeffries who just happen to be taking delivery of a lowered silver bike in March.
( I think its got her name on it ;). )

She is apprehensive of the riding position as she is used to much shorter bars with a lean over the tank to reach them, I had the same feeling going from a 'Bird to the GSA.

I reckon she will love it.

schools with 650

phooey,

pj

BMW rider training do have them, i done my test with them and i used the tallest 650. The other guy i was with used the lower one but they have all combination's. The instructors are fantastic but what i liked about them it was not about trundling around the test routes all day. In the morning we did do some test routes but in the afternoon we went for a ride. Overall i covered over 800 miles before setting my test. What i am getting at is they like to get you as many miles as you can during the training so you will get a feel for the bike.

riverview rider training near southport have one, and Southport Superbikes (me) have a demo
