Ideal a bike sympathetic to an aged body .

I’m based in South Wales but able to travel.

Thanks

Thanks 2ges, was looking for something a little more modern. 2012 onwards 👍

I had to smile - however sympathetic the prospective bike may be, modern day trials event courses have become pretty challenging, as the bikes have evolved, to the extent that many aging clubmen tend to look elsewhere. This is why many prefer the Pre-65 trials concept; still competitive, but with mechanical gremlins, a fun atmosphere & a collectable machine included.

Just my POV - you don't mention your plans/rationale.

Wise words. If you’re past your peak fitness (!) I’d stick to twinshock trials . Much fun to be had.

Rationale … to relive my youth 🙄😂

My first ever trials bike was a Montesa 348 in 1978 then progressed onto a 349 Mont.

Through the years I have had enduro bikes 1981 Swm RSGS 250 TF1 then back onto Gasgas, Beta Rev3 then Evo’s latterly pre covid a return to Montesa 260rt.

My annual pilgrimage to the Telford Classic off-road show raised my heart rate when viewing most of the models I grew up seeing in Competition, sadly my Bank Manager would not support my desire to purchase anything, hence I live with good memories.

All my off-roader have now gone.

However, I am lucky to have some land to be able to play on ! I have little desire to compete now but when able II will happily sit on a section and observe at local events. We host some sections on our land for the Neath Motor Club ACU LDT on occasions and it is an awesome sight !

A more modern machine is lighter, can be easier to start and are more readily available.

If I had only had a crystal ball in the 1980s, had the opportunity to store and preserve my original bikes, I could possibly have owned the bank now 🙄

But that’s life !

I was considering a Montesa 4 ride but budget and needs considered, a 200cc trials bike would be ideal .

I appreciate all the assistance and advice given

Best regards to all for 2026 👍

I have a 2010 Beta 200 in the shed that hasn't turned a wheel for over a year. Will dig out/take some photos if you are interested. Would be looking for £1800 if I were to sell.

Absolutely perfect size bike to start on,a bit more forgiving than a 250 but still extremely competitive, get it bought!

Sorry for not being able to help in your quest, but I was in the Neath Motor Club in the mid to late 70s. I rode enduros on my Bultaco 250 Frontera along side John Collins, Glyn Moses (I think) and many others. Probably the most enjoyment I have ever had on a motorcycle.

NMC is still going, a testament to all the hard work past and present members have done.

Motorcycle sport events just don’t appear, like all other socials and festivals, it the preparation and knowledge that make them good.

John Collins is still on two wheels and his son, Dai, still competes locally and even does an annual pilgrimage to France to ride over there.

The Bultaco Frontera….. much like my old SWM, evoke many memories .

I competed in local and national enduro, late 70s early 80 against the like of Geraint Jones and Andre Zambruiski, plus a few Merthyr Motor Club guys, I was a Merthyr MC member. Great fun and great memories.

There are plenty of bikes for sale if you look in the right places , couple of 2020 bikes, beta and a 4rt localy for 2k, shame localy is Scotland .
Modern are easier to ride, old bikes are hard work, and the arse has fell out of values.
I ride mainly modern but have had plenty of older bikes and still a ty in the corner.
Check you local club sites.

Are Pre65 and Twinshock values on the way downward?

Telford show might be interesting next month !

Still plenty of tricked up TLR200’s asking £4-5k

In general rider numbers are down ,that has to make a difference.
Theres plenty folk asking strong money but no one buying unless there cheap.
I think the days of the TLR are over , Ive always been a yamaha man and you cant give away ty's.
Pre 65 still got a following for interesting stuff, but your not getting an easy entry to the pre65 scottish with a tricked up pony.

Good viewpoint
I think online entries (post COVID) has spoilt trials
They’re needed for big trials, but not ordinary club trials
Never seen the appeal of the TLR 200 and agree it’s maybe had its day
Didn’t know TY’s were becoming hard to sell
