The palm of my gloves must touch the bar ends as within hours of getting the bike I started wearing away what I thought was paint. By 500 miles the paint was gone, and I started wearing down the aluminium. I mentioned it to my dealer but he said it's just the gloves. Now, at 12000 miles, I've worn away the lip of both bar ends to a depth of a couple of millimetres.

I got a new S1000R at the end of last year, and totally forgot about the gloves. After just a few rides, I'm through the anodise on the new bar ends!!

I don't have massive hands, so I don't understand why the rest of the world isn't rubbing the edges off their bar ends. Am I really alone here?

Try holding the grips when you ride, rather than the bar ends.:thumb

Is your other bike a penny farthing?:aidan

Have you not worn through the grips to the heated elements yet ......they were worn throu by about 20k miles on the clutch side on my hex head .:thumb

what sort of gloves are you wearing ?

Try removing the sandpaper from the palms of your gloves before you get on the bike :)

The worst culprits are Held Warm N Dry gloves, but Held Short Race do the same thing. At the risk of causing sniggering, Held were putting stingray on the palms on some gloves. Whatever it is, it's flippin' abrasive. Never give a stingray a pillion ride, it'll wear your seat away in seconds! :D

The only gloves I use that don't wear the bar ends are BMW "Two in One" gloves. I should have known that only BMW gloves are compatible with BMW bar ends. :D

Not rubbing my bar end much these days but I tell you what in my teens I would rub it to no end

yeah, the bar ends on my last GS looked shoddy after a few thousand miles, the paint came off next to the grips where my gloves would occasionally rub.

Thank God for that. I'm not alone!! :)

The bar ends are with the local powder coater now to see if he can put on a more durable coating. If not, I'll have to just ride in some nice soft wooly mittens.

Helicopter tape after paint job. That'll stop future issues.:thumb2
