Hmmm I have a set of 1100s BArrels and pistons heads and cams, shall we see if they fit!

We could make a fortune "The Dreaded 1200 Drop a Valve routine" Exorcised forever with the tougher and more relaible 1100 components!!

I'd a thought... maybe stick it in a frame that didnt rust and connect it to a final drive that didnt fail...

wait, wouldnt it be easier to start with a different engine?

what mods are/was you running?,is that a remus ,did you ever check your fueling was ok or lean?,also in the photo the front cover looks quite clean but the one out of the bike looks like you've dragged it out of the cut, hows that?

The Only mod on this bike was the de cat and remus and It still has the DB killer fitted

Now it has an accelerator resistor doofer fitted to stuff more fuel in and hopefully keep cylinders cooler

balls, what's happened?

worth speaking to rudiemoto on here? (trying to think of bike fixers on here in NW!)

Been there done that, looks like all you need is a barrel = piston = head.
You will have to give the crankcases a real good clean out.

my bike is pretty much the same..the head of the exhaust valve broke off and embedded into the piston....my bike is a 56 and ive done 19000 miles and i've never even red lined the fecker.....:(

Yup thats why it was on the wee stand that I made

because there was one bit of something in the crankcase drain I couldn't shake loose But wasn't leavin it in there no matter what

Tape a 12mm plastic hose to a vacume it will get in the nooks.
Also take off the front engine cover that gives a bit of access.
You will also need a powerful airline to dislodge any bits.

Dont mess about, split the thing open. I think the only issue I had was trying to remove a flywheel (it was a while back now)

ahhh... wait, didnt I see a posting suggesting this was all back together now????

not worked on a 1200 myself, but a half competant mech/friend will sort it.

just order parts up and then sit down and work through it. save paying bmw huge money.

new set valves, piston, maybe barrel.

would also say rebuild crank with new bearings. get piston and barrell from bmw, valves and bearings from 3rd parts as prob be better quality and cheaper.

otherwise buy new eng from breaker and just bolt it in

just clarify, have you taken anything apart yet?

2nd, what leads you think the valve has dropped/broke.

3rd is there any chance could be timing got knoced out and you have be lucky and get away with just replacing the 1 damaged valve that was hitting piston, piston may be fine if didnt ride it long/hard once realised there was problem

i had timing go aon a klr650 before and all did was re set it an was fine, piston was baerly hitting valve just at top stroke and was only pushing it back up so there was no real force on either part.

pitty could get eng over ireland, alwasy wanted strip a boxer down
