The heads on Barrels on my latest project need cleaning. Where's the best place to get it done in the Leicestershire area? The guys I've used in the past have jacked in so I need somewhere thats recomended.

If you can't find anywhere (professional), I can do it at work sometime... not the sort of thing I'm used to, but have done scabby scooter exhausts etc. in the past.

Thanks Ballistic. I may take you up on the offer. It's nothing tricky just knocking some surface corrosion and ingrained dirt from the airhead heads and barrels.

With all the meddling you get up to with tatty old iron Rob, I'd have thought it would be better in the long run to buy a basic kit yerself.....the compressor is pretty universal so you could paint, cut, spanner with it and use it for all sorts, and a bead blast gun is pretty cheap as well.....then knock up a box out of a bit of MDF and some chequer plate lining and you'll be all set

I bought one the other year Bill and then sold it to one of the GSers. The problem is the size of compressor needed and keeping the shot/sand dry. Any moisture in the air and it clogged up, the dust gets everywhere as well. It was easier to use a local guy with a decent setup and sell my blast cabinet, unfortunatly, he's now retired and buggered off to Spain.

Try K&S up in Wigston, they do bike wheels/frames for me.

Whack the sand in a pot and heat it up for ten mins......dries out beautifully!!!

Do they do heads/barrels etc? I use alderby at Thurmaston for my frames but the blast kit they use is too agresive for ally heads and barrels.

Lateral thinking? I spend £30-£40 a year on blasting smaller items, it would take years to justify the expense of a big compressor, blast cabinet and grit at £20 a pot.
We've got a new cooker, pans and big Kitchen coming soon - I don't think I'll even be allowed in there let alone a pan full of blasting grit

We have the kit at work (I think). If these components require any specialist knowledge about shotbalsting them then I'm probably not your man but otherwise I can get them done for you. Let me know if I can help. I'm away with work in germany untill the 19th though.

I have the use of a propper blast cabinet at work that i have done quite a few bits for my bike
i would be happy to do them for you but you need to get them to me
reasonalby quickly as i wont be at this site too much longer.

I've used an outfit on the Old Dalby Trading Estate a number of times and gthey have been very good - cheap and finfished pretty much on the date they promised. They have blasted (and painted) rocker covers, bashplate, alternator cover etc etc and all have been fine. Blasting and painting a pair of rocker covers was about £15 IIRC.
