Anybody tried(ridden with)new BMW GS helmet?

I have tried one on and found it comfortable(though one I tried was a size too small), ergonomics seemed good, though not keen on double D fastener. A little worried about length of chin piece making lateral obsevations difficult. Trouble is with any helmet purchase you really need to road test it....

And there, in a nutshell (if not a helmet shell) is the essence of your problem.

Helmets are personal things. What suits one bod's head and riding position, whether or not they wear glasses, worry (or don't) about lateral observations, have their screen up or down, ride 20,000 miles a year or just one, never ride west into the setting sun or east as it rises or are perhaps just plain, not old....

Buy the helmet (you apparently need to go up a size) if YOU like it, it fits YOU and YOU think it will suit YOU and YOUR riding style on YOUR 1200 GS WC, which will just leave the D-rings for YOU to fuss over. Just because it suits someone else (they probably like the colour as it matches their bike and socks, as much as anything else) means nothing. They also probably like 'The wheels on the bus go round and round' at 11 on the dial as they hoon.

It's buying a helmet; once you get past the one important factor of fit, it's not and never has been an exact science. Even so, people (even bikers) somehow manage it every day..... Now gloves, they are a different matter entirely but you'll need a fresh new thread for those.

Thanks Wapping, always useful comments. I agree with your last post but nevertheless it is always useful to hear other users experience, especially with a new product.

Many years ago I bought a Griffon helmet and the dealer let me have a quick ride with it before buying. Actually that had a long chin bar as well!

Blimey, a Griffon.

There's an antique.

PS As it's a new helmet, you'll be able to buy one, ride in it and write a definitive review. You'll set the standard for others to follow. :thumb

Decided to try the Caberg Tourmax. Less than half the cost of BMW GS and flip front as well.

The Griffon was a great helmet in its day, bit I only road a 250 Greeves then. The visor was fitted using poppers so not very secure.

Phew!

My first fullface helmet, AGV polycarbonate I seem to recall, had popper fasteners. They used to rattle even more than my shite motorcycles.
