Hi, i was looking at getting a car gps unit and putting it in a "SoEasyRider v3" waterproof bag which straps onto the handlebars.
Has anyone every used this on a GS (1200GS '04 model)?

Thanks,
Liam

While i was doing some research on this topic, i found this http://www.mountguys.com/product_p/ram-hol-aq6u.htm, can connect to a RAM mounting system of your choice.

I think this would give a better visual position than a handle bar mount, same position where a zumo would/could go.

Those those interested i've narrowed down my choice of GPS unit to either a Garmin nuvi 760W(T) or 765W(T), tending to go with a 760W(T) as its a bit cheaper and i've no need for a bluetooth headset (which seem quite expensive).

Has anyone used a nuvi 760 or 765 on a bike, if so i'd be interested to hear how you got on.

I've one one mine. They are fantastic, apart from the condensation issue. :thumb2

I used a nüvi 770 which is a 760 with a larger internal memory and both North America and Europe maps, on a rented GS in the San Francisco Bay Area for a couple of days last year. It was mounted in a RAM cradle and attached to the left hand side of the handlebar via a Ram mount that Dubbelju, the rental company had fitted.

It took me a day and a half's riding on goat tracks to kill the power/data connector on the OE Garmin mount. I'd plugged a cigarette lighter socket on a cable into the auxiliary socket on the side of the bike, stowed the socket under the seat on top of the battery and run the OE power cable / traffic antenna up to the handlebar under the side panel.

The nüvi being off to one side and the cable flapping about in the breeze put too much strain on the female connector in the Garmin mount and it broke.

However, it's also possible to power the unit via the USB port which is much more robust. Just ensure that you retain the 12v : 5v convertor which comes in USB cigarette lighter plugs as hard wiring a USB lead into the bike would give you 12v which the nüvi might not take too well.
