Hi I am thinking of getting an on board camera. Not interested in filming any antics or mayhem. Just something that turns on when you plug it in and when Mildred in her Merc wanders out in front of me, or Numpty Nick in his Nissan truck chops my front wheel off by lane changing without using his mirrors I have something for when the inevitable round of near misses might become serious.
I did wonder if was me getting older but, it just seems to be getting a bit hairier out there at the moment..maybe its winter.
Looking for something small discreet and waterproof. Not really into the go pro helmet cam stuff.
Any advice grateful recd. (Yes use the car... I know....)

helmet cam best it sees what you see and records it, bestter for getting registration numbers etc

I've just got a Garmin Virb Elite. Records your speed as well as other information which could be used (Or deleted off the footage if required).

Good quality footage, so should pick up reg plates easily.

Battery is supposed to be good for 3 hours runtime.

Have fitted an Innovv C3 to my GSA, head unit in the glove box, lens unit under the light, with a 12v to 5v hard wired adapter it comes on and goes off with the ignition, loops on a 32gb micro SD card.

I have just bought a drift ghost s from ebay second hand for £189 the same seller has a few more for £199

Small form factor and quality video.

Ebay seller is;

And although second hand it was like new when it arrived...it didnt come with any mounts but bought a multi pack from another seller on ebay for 15 quid.

Hope that helps

Yes GARMIN VIRB really good in my opinion.

I really rate it and price dropped from £350 to 199 in a lot of places:aidan

Ive got a small bullet camera from dog cam sport- so small its unnoticable battery lasts about 40 mins. One button control. £99 I think. Some mounts with it. Use it on ride outs and track days etc. HD- go for the widescreen version- easier to see when its on or off too.

I have 2 x Innovv C3 cams on my 15 GS. On with ignition, loop on the 32 Gb. About 2 mths now daily use. Perfect video and never crashes. About USD $130 per cam. I put the 2 recorders in waterproof iPhone cases under the seat.

Thank you all for this. really useful; I like the look of the Innov just from the discrete size of the camera unit and it does look like it could go on your helmet with out looking like a prat..
Thanks guys...Appreciated.

I use the Drift Ghost. previous model to the Drift Ghost S. Get yourself a longish USB-miniUSB cable, download the latest Drift Ghost firmware and you can use it in DVR mode which means it will record when you switch the ignition on and when you switch ignition off it will record to end of that loop segment. When you run out of space on the miniSD card it will record over oldest clips and you'll never run out of power if it's on USB.

Could i ask where you are taking the 12v switched supply from?
At present I have a camera temporarily wired with a hella plus direct into the aux socket but after ignition is switched off and the aux socket becomes inactive, the cambus system does not recognise that the camera is still attached and the camera keeps drawing power and eventually saps the bikes battery.
I know that I can keep on pulling the hella plug out but the memory seems to fail on occasions!

FWIW, I have a HD bullet cam wired to a Fuzeblock which is fitted under the rear seat. This has an internal relay triggered from one of the fuses under the riders seat which conveniently is ignition switched.
This arrangement gives me 6 fused ways for accessories which will switch on/off with the ignition or in fact you can make any of the 6 ways permanently live by placing the individual fuse in a different position.

Just do a search as there are quite a few examples kicking around the web. A more expensive solution is the PDM60.

I brought Garmin Virb Elite via Amazon for £119 with all the normal accessories included a great deal IMHO. It connects via wifi to my iphone so all the settings can be made so easily and video streamed.

You could start with a couple of these and see how you get on.

There is a guy on Youtube that has one inside of his helmet.

Quality is plenty good but you really need it on your helmet to get good footage.
I got a version of that (there's many many copies out there).
All seemed well - quality etc, BUT for the life of me i could not get the damn thing in the right place, inside my lid.
See the vid at about 6minutes in - seems a good set up....
.... tried that.
I got footage of the sky, the ground, the other side of the road and - the end of my nose!
Damned if i could get it to just face forward. Then (mine was a hong kong copy - i figured if it worked i'd buy a 'proper' one) the sd card fecked up - i gave up. :banghead:

I'm getting an Oregon 5k soon. Old tech, but good enough for my needs.

No - i am not mounting THAT inside me lid!

I bought a cheepy from argos for £50. hitachi hdsv01u. I tried it hear and there but the vibes would play havok with the clip, the best place I found was where the indicater is bolted on, put a bigger bolt in with some spacers. The sound quality is pants but the picture is ok.

I like that idea, records automatically. Cheap camera too, although not sure its worth buying the adapter, when the Mobius would work out of the box? http://www.minidvcameras.co.uk/viewitem.php?productid=17

What is the adapter wired to?

I have a USB socket/lead that goes to switched power via to an FZ1 fuzeblock from the battery.
