Anybody using an on bike camera?

I was offered the opportunity to go for a Garmin VIRB Elite, which I did. The picture is superb and the field of view and definition is outstanding, and as another poster suggests there are some real bargains to be had if you look around Amazon, Ebay etc.and, you can control it from your iPhone as well. I have it on the side of my helmet at the moment and to be honest it does not affect anything although it is not that discreet. Problem is battery only lasts 2.5 hrs, just under 3 max... not much use on a 3 -4 hr trip!
My next plan is to mount it behind the screen on the sat nav mounting bar using the Garmin kit and power it off my USB adapter on the power socket. Apparently the loop function is not that great so advice is to either empty the card after 3 hrs (at fuel /pee stop,or man up and buy a 62 Gb card which will store 6 hrs of recording, more if you drop the resolution. If that works I might hardwire a USB socket for it to free up the power socket. Very easy to unclip and remove from the bike for security.
Another option might be to buy the waterproof housing (£27.00) and hard wire that in thus eliminating any waterproofing issues, however behind the screen it should be relatively unscathed. Will post some pics when I'm done.
The great thing about being able to take it off the bike is that it also does 16MP stills and, is a great hand held discreet camera.

I run a Garmin VIRB on my 2014 GSA WC. It is mounted on the beak and is superb. I power it via a USB adaptor from the accessory socket. It is already waterproof for rain etc. The loop function works fine but I use a 64GB card for my longer trips where I want to keep the video. I use the Remote mounted on my handlebar to switch on and off.

I got one of these here for the Innovv C3, connected to an output from a Fuzeblock, it turns the camera on and off with the ignition.
I did have to do a bit of fettling to get the kit to fit in the glovebox but it works and is weatherproof in there.

The Virb is waterproof for 30 mins at 1 metre depth - as stated in the handbook: The device is water resistant to IEC Standard 60529 IPX7. It can withstand immersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Prolonged submersion can cause damage to the device. After submersion, be certain to wipe dry and air dry the device before using or charging.

A somewhat major consideration that many seem to forget!
It's as much a witness for the prosecution as the defence.

Vey true and a serious consideration.... it needs a sensor on it that shuts the camera down at 77mph!

Assuming of course there are, among us, those who exceed our national max speed limit by more than this 10%!!

I have 2 x Innovv C3 cams on my 15 GS. On with ignition, loop on the 32 Gb. About 2 mths now daily use. Perfect video and never crashes. About USD $130 per cam. I put the 2 recorders in waterproof iPhone cases under the seat.

I have been looking at these recently and think for me it is the best way forward.

If i order the capacitor version what is the best place to pick an ignition live from that does not interfere with the bikes electrics.

For 13-15 GS there is a plug under the drivers seat close to the tank that has a fuse in it, tap that shit.

I bought a Dogcam bullet R+ (http://www.dogcamsport.co.uk/dogcam-bullet-r.html) with a hardwire kit and mounted it under the right-hand indicator using RAM fittings. Minimal vibration, a good view of the road (albeit with a bit of beak in-shot) and the Dogcam records very good quality onto a 64Gb microSD card, and loops when the card fills up.

Drift Ghost HD bought of EBay as a refubished item for £135. Looks like new. I bought a ¼" screw > GoPro adaptor to utilise the many GoPro mounts.
At the moment I've bolted it to my engine bars and I'm about to wire in a double USB socket to power it continuously on loop mode. Comes with a remote that can turn record on & off.
