Anybody using the current Belstaff or Barbour jackets?

Perusing the current Grand Prix Legends catalogue and love the look of the Trialmaster and Mojave jackets. Prices are up in the stratosphere but as with most other things related to our hobby, if we really like something we pay the premium.

Just wondering if anyone here actually uses one and what its like comfort wise and whether the waxed cotton ends up smelling like a wet labrador after a few rainy rides? I'd probably just use it for short around town jaunts and stick to the proper Halvarssons kit for long journeys.

I love the look of wax cotton jackets, and I love the walk down memory lane. When I first started biking in the 70's everyone started with a wax jacket as they were Cheap !!! its what you started with, but they always had down sides, they are not that warm they are not that waterproof and even with modern waxes they are still coverd in wax.
There is a reason everyone ditched them in favor of somthing else, in the same way leather jackets are nowhere near as popular as they used to be.
 
I've been using the Trailmaster for the last approx 15/20k miles including a 4000 mile sprint around France and Spain.

It's been a great jacket in that it's comfy, has some armour (although no back protector), is reasonably weather proof (but you still need to carry a waterproof to go over the top as it is not waterproof in a downpour). The best part about it is that it's no problem to wear to dinner with work colleagues after work.

Only issue so far is that the corners of the pockets are starting to wear a hole through. It's not big enough for a pen to fall through but perhaps it will be in another 5k miles.

I've not noticed it being smelly after it's got wet, certainly Mavette hasn't complained :D
 
good jackets, but by no means waterproof. i use my for work as looks smart on or off the bike

the wax isnt as heavy as the older jackets, so you dont get your hands covered in it. i think you can get a spary to re-proof.

i picked my up on ebay, dont think i would pay full rrp for one though
 
I bought the last set of originals (made in Engand) at Daytona in 2005. No armour but I sometimes wear full race leathers underneath...

Waterproof ?.. Last year riding to LLangollen through 3 hours of continuous torrential rain, they didn't leak a drop... :nenau
I have a tin of Campbell Cooper wax dressing but it hasn't needed it as yet..The spray is crap, you need to rub the wax in on a hot/warm day & let it penetrate for the best result. Good for another 5 years then...

I have other rain gear but this is my preference for seriously bad weather... Differences of opinion & results I know, can't help you there, just stating my experiences...

I have both!! The Mojarve is great for summer use the trailmaster for winter. Both well made and lasting well.Both have armour though I would not want to slide far in the Mojarve:augie
They are expensive but I love em :D
