Hi, I've changed from my 2004 GS to a 2008 GS (the current model) and have a set of downpipes without the cat from the old bike. I was wondering if anyone has any experience of de-cating the new model? It made a great difference on the old model and was hoping that the updated model would respond as well to the change. I know they've made mods to the engine but don't know if that includes fuelling and don't want to damage the bike by making the mod without some sage advice.

Can anyone share their experience? I'd be running the standard end can but may also fit a K&N with the pipes.

Thanks

Same results so don't worry and fit them:thumb No need to alter anything but I think you are wasting your time and money with the K&N. Just my opinion of course :thumb

Thanks, I wasn't sure if the fuelling had been leaned out further but did noticethe flat spot was still there, albeit a bit further up the rev range.

I already have the K&N as I had it on the last bike and you may be right as I never noticed any real difference after fitting it, I had fitted the pipes first though.

I fitted the non cat pipe to my 58 plate gsa, i thought it made a reasonable difference to the "economy hole" flatness and better throttle response, i also tryed a k&n filter which didnt make any difference ......if anything it was worse than keeping the standear filter in, just my findings though

Guys, Thanks, sounds like the pipes get the thumbs up but the K&N doesn't. I ran the K&N/downpipes and standard can on the old bike and was very happy, I'll try the downpipes, standard can & Filter and see how it goes.

So far I'm a bit dissapointed in the new motor and its hp increase (or not) as my old one felt stronger everywhere but as the new one only has 5K up I guess it still needs a few miles to loosen up. The old one did get better as the miles racked up.

Thanks Again:thumb2.

I rode a pals 08 GSA 1200 with 5k kms this week and the new +5hp motor seemed less responsive than my own standard 05 GS 1200 with 30k kms so it probably is a case of the new motor loosening up over time.

Slick Nick

Anyone know where i can buy the de-cat pipe for my 09 1200gs adv?

Guys, its been de-cat'ed now and as you indicated, it works just fine....well actually much better than standard!

I'd have it dyno'd to check out the air-fuel ratio isn't much too lean in parts of the rev band. Having discussed this with YPE, my local Dynojet Tuning Centre, they've told me of even '07 bikes being much too lean when fitted with a full system. There's a member on here whose bike that was who PM'd me about it after I'd mentioned it previously.

I believe '08 onwards bikes are mapped even leaner as stock which is why I've held off fitting my full Remus system until my '09 bike has sufficient miles on it to make it worthwhile dyno'ing it and fitting a Power Commander.

2008 bike fitted K and n and remus haxagon still got cat in place and exhaust has baffles in, recently Dyno run showed 103.6HP and rear wheel and 78.8 tork at 5700 rpm.Fueling perfect i.e mixture and tork curve only dip is electronic for emmissions test.
Compared to O7 bike which is 5 BHP less at crank which had been decated, K and N remus exhaust, and power commander only showing 93BHP at crank. Even adding net 3 BHP to compensate for origional extra BHP on 08 bike, 07 bike still down on performance even with all kit on.
