Anyone fancy an XT600 (34L)?

Bought myself a running XT600 34L a few months ago with the intention of stripping it down to its nuts and bolts to rebuild it. Realistically I'll never get a chance to do what I want with it as we're due another baby in a couple of months. My romantic plan was to rebuild it and use for a long distance overland trip.

The guy I bought it off had been using it to commute even though it was on English plates (which it still is - I have V5) so I assume he never taxed it either. The bad that I can remember off the top of my head:

• Front light is disconnected, no idea why
• A previous owner lost the keys so the ignition is shorted out (bought a replacement one off eBay)
• Plenty of fresh air in the front brake. Needs to be bled and refilled I reckon
• I stripped the paint off the headstock to do a HPI (which was clear)
• Take a few kicks to get her going
• No side or centre stand
• The engine in it is not the original one I don't think

The good:

• Tyres look very new
• Renthal bars
• it's a lovely bike

Stands me €900 (bike, HPI, replacement ignition barrel & key, manuals - clymer etc) so that's what I'd like to get for it. Mainly selling to pick up a DR350/DRZ400s so might be interested in a swap of some sort once it doesn't cost me much.

Interesting bikes, if you do ever strip one down make sure you replace 4th gear as it can break up causing all sorts of problems.
Dave Lambeth, the expert on these, has sourced a 4th gear from another Yamaha which is much better quality and fits but doubt he'll tell you which bike they're from

Yeah I love these bikes, I just wish I had the time and space to do it up. I was considering fixing the front brake and headlight and doing some green laning but I think it's too nice for that.

So I'll get something smaller, lighter and rattier....

The 34L's were all 1984's I think. This one is anyhow. 25000 miles "on the clock" - don't know how genuine that is though. Took a few photos this morning.
