After going down to Fingle Bridge and watching Bakerman and others in the Exeter trial I fancy having a go. Anyone fancy a pop at the lands End Trial (if it's not too late to enter) on 21st and 22nd March?
I have never had a go at this sort of event before but it looked a riot. I think the closing date for entry is the end of January.

I haven't decided yet Proff. Plenty of cheap old cars on ebay that are suitable but I was hoping someone with some idea would fancy a go. I guess a Marlin would be an ideal?
I know you have done a bit to it: what would you recommend?

Something cheap and disposable, escort mk2 ?? rear wheel drives a must:)

I'll start looking Proff :thumb2 It's really short notice so it might be a case of waiting for the next one: have to see what happens :)

Ive watched a few going up the blue hills at St agnes, Dont recon an escort would do it, ground clearance, although one guy did get up in an opel manta.
Its the half way stop that gets them.:rob

sounds like fun :bounce1:bounce1:bounce1

Count me in... Although I have no idea what you lot are talking about :blast

However, anything involving second hand cars and what sounds like hill climbs has to be a laugh...

Mmmm what we need is a Vauxhall Nova with a 1.8 Opel engine in it... Something I was thinking of playing with years ago... Apprently the conversion isn't too tricky :aidan

Lada Riva wi a 2.8 Lancia DOHC in it. OK, it wasn't RWD, but it didn't half give the XR3 drivers a red face on the climbs :D

Hi Devon, was it you on the black and yellow 1150 out in the dead of night following the trial?
With time being short it may be worth entering class '0'.
You don't need quite such a trick bit of kit as that class misses the hardest sections.
As you've seen people turn up in anything so go for it!!
A mate of mine has a ancient polo and a astra gte.
The astra has 15 stone of lead under the bonnet though:eek:
If you go for it i'll try and get some tips from him.

You will need to join the MCC which is £25.00 and the entry is £50.00.
Look at the Motor cycling Club website for more info.

Got the Exeter results yesterday and they had me down as the M/Cycle winner:beerjug: BUT I know I wasn't as I made a couple of mistakes that must have been missed by the observers so I phoned and confesed last night:o Ho hum, always next year!!!

Hi MUZMC, saw you wheelie over the step halfway up Fingles bridge section, Me Devon , Trippy and Euan were altogether...
You may have heard the "Well done Tosser" emanating from that area:thumb2

Hi Proff, I did hear a cheer but at that time of the event I was really trying to keep my concentration on the section. It was the easy sections that I had made mistakes on just by being to complacent so was trying not to make any more!!
I had a couple of mates down there watching as well and didn't see them either.

Roll on the Lands End:thumb2

Many Thank's for all the info. Muzvmc. I sent my membership application for the MCC this morning. I will give it a couple of days then see if entry to the'O' class is available: always best to learn to walk before trying to run and it's my first go at this sort of thing. Rather than add lead ballast to the car I was hoping Proff would volunteer to be a passenger. :augie :D
I see the MCC are at the SouthWest Classic bike show, I'm there for the weekend as well so I will have a chat with the peeps then. :thumb2

Respect to you for fessing up to your mistakes on the trial and handing back the winners place. :bow

Hi this add is from the MCC news of the week a few weeks ago I don’t know if it’s still for sale
If you get on the mailing list for the news letter now you are a member there are always cars and bikes for sale there and with the cars if they are already sorted out that would save you a lot of work

I will be at SouthWest Classic bike show on the club stand on Saturday so if you are there come and say hello my XT600E will be on the stand (it’s the one that looks like a piece of crap)

Bob

FOR SALE: AUDI 80 2.0E. As driven by Barrie Parker and as seen on the Exeter trial this weekend. Returned home safe and sound with another medal – Bronze (TBC). This remarkable FWD Class 1 car has completed the full course, done all the hills and returned home without assistance on the eight MCC trials I’ve entered. (4 Exeters, 2 Lands Ends and 2 Edinburghs). As seen in the last issue of Triple, cleaning Blue Hills without the front bumper and spots! On the last 4 events it’s achieved 3 Bronze and 1 Silver medals. Engine and box standard. Raised. Underbody protected. 10 wheels & tyres. Otherwise fairly standard – carpets, radio, sunroof, power steering. Warm, dry and quiet. For sale only because I can’t do the Land End this year and I intend to try a different car and/or class next year. Ready to go on this year’s Lands End! Lives in Ascot. £300.

Thank's for that Bob, It turns out we have Finnish friends I haven't seen for a couple of years coming to stay this Easter. That and other things that are happening at the moment mean I won't be able to enter the Lands End trial.

I plan to pick up a Rickman Ranger and try my luck next year though :thumb2
I am at the Classic show this weekend, I'll call over to the MCC stand, say hello and get some advice hopefully.

I did these events in a ford anglia estate a few years ago. Didn't win anything but had loads of fun. There was a video done of the '92 Lands End, got into that twice. Cleared Bluehills 2 in the old girl.:clap

Saw this on that atrocious Fifth gear rip off prog the other night and it did look like a right hoot......they did it (and finished, but missed out on a medal) in an old stylee Beetle (good choice...have seen those cruise through desert sand where eerything else including Land rovers were getting stuck :augie)

Time rules it out for me at the moment but I'd look forwards to following your exploits if it goes ahead :thumb2
