Bought myself a BMW enduro helmet a while back in a sale, just got round to trying to fit an autocom headset and can't find a good way of fitting the ear speaker thingies.
Has anyone done this to one of these lids and if so how?

Thanks, Chris.

Yep.
Take the ear sponges out. There is a slight depression that covers the ear. You can gently peel of the grey cover from the polystyrene then insert the speaker.
The speakers are a little proud, I've always had the intention to dremel the polystyrene away under the speaker location to get a better fit... but I haven't got round to it yet.

Hi Chris I had the same problem you did, a couple of weeks ago but found this helpful thread on the forum.

Fitting Autocom speakers etc to BMW enduro helmet.

If anyone is interested, I fitted it in the end and found it very easy. Just a little more involved than simply sticking the speakers in. I removed both cheek pads, partly stripped back some of the covering which is glued on and found a rather thick piece of foam inside where I wanted the speakers to be. So simply removed the foam. I did have to removed about a millimeter of styrene shell but this is only a lip which I know sounds naughty but if you see it you will understand it really is nothing and doubt it would have any affect on the strength/ safety etc. Then I used a thin piece of foam to cover the speakers and make it so the padding (speakers with my bit of foam) is about the same as it was when I started if you follow what I mean. Then re-fitted the original covering which is still very sticky and simply stuck back down as it was.
The result looks just like a standard helmet inside without any speakers etc. The only difference is the boom mike and the cable coming out of one side. I did take my time (as I always do as I'm a bit of a perfectionist) and I guess it took most of the evening. But now feel very happy with the result.
Hope this will give others a little confidence to tackle this job, it really is easy.
Chris.

You'd think by now some of the bike comms firms would make a youtube type fitting video for some of the most popular helmets to help give people a better idea of how to fit the things.

Although we have never been asked to show our helmet fits via any videos I will take onboard your comments.
