I'm thinking about doing this, with 37L on the RHS and 48L on the LHS (Topbox size undecided as yet).

A quick look at fitting instructions suggests that the rear indicators need to be moved. Is this the case, or have I read the wrong instructions?

Also, if anyone's done it, have you got any pics. There's just generic pics online.

Cheers
Phil

Good question. I am also thinking of doing this on a 1250. Would prefer the BMW alu. panniers but they are very expensive to fit on a GS as I understand that the pillion pegs need to be replaced.
Regards
Martin

I looked at doing this, but decided against it and went for the BMW panniers with the Outback topbox. It all matched and worked well.
Only drawback was with the 56ltr topbox, you can't hinge the tops of the side cases open. You must remove the lid to access the pannier.
No big deal, and it all worked well.

That top box is HUGE

Thought about it myself but decided it’s too big

Not the same I know, but I fitted the Givi Trekker Monokeys to my R1200GSA.

I liked them.

I use them on my Bandit 1250 as well when messing about.

33 Litre Offside
33 Litre Nearside
52 Litre Top Box

Really handy to just flip open the little top section so all your stuff doesn't fall out, AND the rain doesn't get in

I never even considered the difficulty of opening the side cases with the larger top box on.

I have just ordered the 37l and 48l sides, and the 42l topbox. probably be here in a weeks time, and I'll put some pics up, so it may help anyone else.
Thanks for the replies

I have a set of rails and aluminium rack to suit these panniers available.

Fitted but never used, long story. Used the Trekkers on two previous bikes and they were very good, well constructed and waterproof. 33L on either side btw, odd sizes look awful and the difference due to the exhaust is barely perceptible. 48L top box I think. all was good.

Apologies for thread hijack

holan

The Holan panniers are decent kit and the lids o pen with the big Givi box fitted.

Sorry for the hijack, what is the handlebar set up? Any good, or just "see me" led lights?

Here is my GSA with exact set up you are thinking off....

If you own GS rather than GSA, you will need to use Givi “relocation” brackets for your rear indicators. However if you are installing this kit on a GSA, there is no need to do so as indicators already designed with that in mind and stick out further back than on a GS.

The boxes them self are slightly longer that BMW ones and 42l top box has a larger footprint than bmw box, as a result it looking like it is “hanging” further back like a pendulum.

If you are interested, I have rack and mounting plate for GSA with optional reinforcing brackets, both items are for sale.

PS. Pannier racks will fit standard GS too, however top box plate will not fit GS, as it is GSA specific.

They're called Acerbis Vision Hand-guards.

They illuminate at a similar intensity as dipped beam. So enough light to see me, but not enough to light up the road in front of me when it's dark. It's a triangle of light really.

The lower LED lights are brighter, but low to the ground. So these get switched on if traffic is very bad. It looks bright, but not dazzling, it looks better on bright sunny days when riding down lanes and through shadows.

YOU CANNOT miss this bike when it's on the road with these lights on....

I was riding in fog once, and overtook some cars.... further up the road I stopped for fuel and a driver got out and came over to talk about the lights. He was a biker as well, he was so impressed. At first he thought I was a quad bike in his mirrors until I overtook him.

He said they didn't dazzle but you could not miss it.... very good.

Yo can buy a slightly smaller alternative .

Givi sell the same metal boxes with their other brand , Kappa , and the model is called K-Venture. The top boxes are exactly the same except they offer a more suitable 48L in the Kappa brand as well as the smaller 42L and very large 58L ...:thumb2

Maybe it’s just the perspective of the pictures but some of those top boxes look like they hang way out the back.
That’s got to start making the front wheel light?
That massive top box I would want to move way inboard if I was going to fill it up.

I not had any issues with front wheel lifting. Even two up.

A quick look at fitting instructions suggests that the rear indicators need to be moved. Is this the case, or have I read the wrong instructions?

I fitted Givi Trekkers (not Outback) to my 1200GS (now sold) and the instructions also said to relocate the indicators. I didn't and never had a problem.

The relocation advice could be for the USA market where the indicators have to be visible from the side (I seem to recall an issue with GSA aluminium panniers having to be withdrawn from sale due to an indicator issue) although I stand to be corrected.

You don’t need to move the indicators. The panniers fit fine with them in the original position.
