Stupidly I offered to help out a friend whose PC has got virus' on it and has become impossible to use.

As soon as it starts I get 'Windows Explorer has stopped working' and lots of other errors. Looking on the web this is known problem and re-install of the OS is only sure fire solution. Only he has lost the disks and there is nothing in the recovery partition.

The machine is a Dell with Vista Basic.

I have tried to download Vista from Dell, create an .ISO file and a bootable USB but can't get that working. I am on the limit of my capabilities.

Does anyone have a Dell installation disk I could try ?

Thanks

XP Home, not Vista.

It is a pukka Dell OEM install one though, and I don't need the license anymore so it will be pukka for updates etc (the holographic ticket is still stuck on the old machine probably)

Let me know :thumb

EDIT...It may be XP pro, thinking about it, I'm not sure

Thank you Bill

That is a generous offer I may take you up on.

In the meantime I ordered this, 'Windows Vista Home Basic 32 bit Compatible Re-install Restore Repair Computer disk, Sold by Windows Repair Store' from Amazon for £4.99. The licence key is on a label stuck on the machine.

I will try this and let you know how I get on.

Sending this on a freshly rebuilt, clean and fast PC.

My £5 disk has done the job.

I am hoping the vendor is a 13 year kid operating out of his bedroom because he is providing a service people need.
