June last year, picked up a replacement RT for the original which was the victim of "paint defects". New bike ACF50'd from new and it goes into the dealers last week for it's 6k service having done 2 European trips, garaged between October and April (R1100RS SE used during winter) and they find the paint starting to bubble on the edge of the engine front cover, where the engine case meets the cylinder head and on the cylinder head of the near side cylinder. BMW will be replacing the whole engine at a cost of £8500, but WTF is happening here? This must cost BMW a fortune....
Back to the original question though, those who have had replacement motors (and I understand there are so many that BMW went to black engines solely for the UK market ) any problems.
I am seriously thinking of flogging the LC once the engine has been replaced and going back to an older R1200RT. My previous bike a 2006 RT went through 8 winters and aside from the front engine cover (replaced under warranty) and footrest hangers it was in excellent condition when I traded it in.
