I'm only doing a couple of thousand miles a year on the GS these days so would like to fit some good quality pattern discs rather than Brembo etc.

Found these on eBay, but would rather not buy blind

EBC direct from their online shop or as suggested as long as genuine galfer
 
This is the thing.

We all know that these sort of parts are fundamental to our safety and we dont trust Chinese parts.
For all we know the Chinese parts might be ok but dare not risk it.

Any volunteer's to be the UKGSer tester 😁

Spoke to an employee of Pagid /Textar a couple of years back and they actually supply packages to Brembo for fitment onto high end vehicles ie Audi/Porsche ( branded as Brembo).
Aftermarket Brembo stuff from the likes of GSF and ECP is made in China and sold via Brembo's official supply network.
Regarding Brembo motorcycle discs and pads for the higher end oem bikes they are generally made by Brembo in Italy but for the smaller capacity stuff from KTM, Husky etc they are sourced from Chima and Italy but carry Brembo logos.
With more and more European manufacturers utilising Chinese and Indian suppliers it wouldn't be any surprise if BMW r1300's etc do not come with Chinese or Indian made "Brembo" discs within a few years

I don't think brake disc manufacture is a dark art, there will be good quality pattern parts around just looking for others experience. I will avoid Chinese/Indian stuff but presumably all these Chinese bikes and Enfields aren't suffering catastrophic brake failure

get a screwdriver and hit the disc.

If it makes a Ding sound its Italian.

If it goes Ting its Chinese.
 
Braking use Talon in Somerset.

I used to get their brake pads for my TY250 back in the 80s and 90s
It used to go through pads for fun.

Similar to having EBC rotors.

Just check the prices (I have no idea). I installed a new set of Brembos on my GS' front wheel a few years back, and they were not crazy expensive.
Considering also you'd easily do up to 100k km before reaching the lower thickness limit, so it's now one changes brakes discs every few months.

Performance parts are an official distributor and have stock


The eBay supplier (Calsport) is a bit cheaper, is UK based and has a long trading record so should also be OK you would think

branded stuff made in China is fine as long as the company ordering the stuff takes responsibility to ensure the product meets the relevant quality standards such as CE/BSI/TUV. As in the news today, with the Aliexpress fine, there are a lot of fake products around that have not undergone the relevant quality control.

As you seem to have done in your latest post, some due diligence on the retailer on Ebay can have good results. I have certainly ordered brake parts from Ebay but it is usually via the Ebay shop of someone like Demon Tweeks etc.

Made to the same pattern as the original (and hopefully same quality) but not by the original part manufacturer. Yes 'Aftermarket'
 
Nippy Normans supply Touratech, Wunderlich, Desert Fox and many other makes of accessories.
