Has anyone had problems with their Pyramid hugger fouling the tyre/swinging arm?

I have one fitted on my 1100gs and it does not hit swinging arm or tyre but when loaded it has been marked by the under tray when I go over some bigger bumps to fast.

I had a similar problem with a Pyramid hugger on a Fazer Thou, it was fine on the original tyres, however when I changed to 020's it caught the tyre on one side???? Anyway, I packed it up with a rubber pad and it was OK after that.
had one on my 1150 & it hit the underside of the seat unit. i reshaped it and had it resprayed & it was fine for years.
last time i changed the tyres (tourances as always) the tyre wore a hole in the bit that fits near the swing arm pivot

Yes. Fitted one to my '05 GS and it scuffed the tyre. Had to remove quite a bit of the hugger and fit an extra spacer washer before it was safe to use it.
Disappointed with the fitment and not good value for money, so would try another manufacturer if I had to replace this one.

Fitted a second washer and tryed again. It was just as bad when I removed it, it had already started to remove the paint off the swing arm 
sent it back.After looking at loads of other huggers I decided they either dont do the job of keeping my left boot clean'ish or are too heavy.
I think the 12's swing arm is too complicated, with not enough fixing points to fit a worthwhile hugger.
I keep looking at it with some sort of extended shock shroud in mind.
I left mine back to the dealers. He said he hasn't had any other problems reported and he measured it with a couple of the new one's he has in stock - they all appear to be out of the same mould so I am waiting until he talks to the manufacturer

1.Fit the Adventure screen 2.Forget about a hugger - all motorcycling clothing is washable.(Or should be!)

The hugger is designed to fit without the BMW rear floating mudguard. Remove that then fit the hugger. Voila! it fits with no fouling.

When I bought the bike, it had a Pyramid fitted and the standard guard removed.
I now have them both fitted, so far no problems with fouling and it must keep the underside cleaner???

Yes. I left the standard guard on too but the only way I could stop it wasging (tried every type of washer combination) was to bend part of the huuger with plyers. Naff I know, but the bit rubbing wasn't on show and it does the job the nature intended. I couldn't be bothered faffing about sending it back.

Ninja Man gave me his hugger as he didn't like it, on his 1150.Both of us were surprised to see scuff marks on the inside, where the tyre had rubbed against the strengthening area, & behind the erar shock. I put an extra washer on mine when I fitted it, still did it though.
It also made bugger all difference to the muck thrown onto the bike, so I took it off. Probably a waste of time anyway, as the GS does not have the linkage type suspension that can suffer from road crap. So the manufacturers are just playing on our insecurities. IMO

I think that is the real solution to all these problems with huggers!

Yes. Had to take a heat gun to mine to eliminate rubbing the tyre near the swing arm. After that modification, it's been fine.

Sorry guys: mine fits fine. Tourance with about 2,000 miles wear. No rubbing

yep, mines fine too on my GSA, had to jiggle a few washers around where the s/s bracket fits around the caliper to get it spot on. Removed the shock shroud as directed so no chafing in that department

Dont go anywhere near a Pyramid hugger. Fitted one to new GS, little rubber grommet fell off after a few weeks marking the swinging arm then I noticed the top of the metal bar or the bolts of the hugger had scratched the inside of the lower offside frame tube. Must have touched when riding 2 up with panniers. Still waiting for contact from gaffer at Pyramid who seems to be constantly unavailable. Before you ask, everything was fitted correctly and suspension stiffened. Product and aftersales about as much use as a chocolate spanner.

Warning when removing Pyramid hugger.
Had a pyramid hugger fitted when I took delivery of my R1200GS a year ago; must admit there wasn't any problems with it. But I always thought it wasn't quite up to the job. Recently I got hold of a motorrad concepts hugger. Any way today I was removing the pyramid unit and found I had real difficulty removing the two replacement caliper adaptor fixings. Because they were made of mild steel they had corroded and jammed in the threads of the caliper. It took a lot of patient work and lots of wd40 to remove the adaptors. In fact the front one had part of the thread stripped. I managed to repair the thread and fitted the new hugger with no problems.
