I’d hoped that the crankcase would clean up ok without aqua blast cleaning but alas,that was not to be.
That’s interesting. Could you try grit blast and then vapour blast Mike?

Always have to dry media blast first,
The aqua blast is more of a refinishing operation.
It won’t remove corrosion etc
top photo , do you not add a bevel on the leading edge of the shoe ?

Why?
That would negate the effect of the leading edge.
i've always done it , stops it being "grabby" while the shoes bed in .
