As well as the usual ride outs around the West Country would anyone be interested in doing a weekend ride out?

I was thinking along the lines of riding up to North Wales or possibly Scotland or a trip over to Brittany? For Wales I would suggest setting off on a Saturday morning, Riding up through Tintine and central Wales, finding a cheap B&B or pub accommodation for Saturday night and maybe doing a route like the one Dan (Toad) did at the Llangollen Weekend http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=229505

Alternatively, we could do a weekend in Brittany, sailing Plymouth/Roscoff on a Thursday or Friday and returning on the Sunday.

Scotland would probably require leaving the West Country on Thursday afternoon and getting up around Blackpool then riding up to near Inverness and getting accommodation for the Friday and Saturday night then riding home Sunday.

Anyone interested or have any other ideas?

As well as the usual, I plan on doing the Moto Pistons Rally in September and maybe go across to Portugal and hiring a Pogo to do some off roading: I hope to hire an aquaintance's place in an area that is popular for off roading. Also, possibly returning to Morroco in October sticking mainly to the roads if anyone is interested.

And whilst we are on the subject of ride outs: it must be time to sort out another Devon and Cornwall ride out (Alan) :D

Hi,
Returning Newbie....
I went to Rhayader in Mid Wales last year - I think I'd want to be looking at leaving mid afternoon Friday to give myself more of a relaxing weekend. I then carried on up to Glencoe and camped. It's a pretty good base camp - I'm not sure you'd need to go all the way to Inverness to enjoy the Western Highlands unless you really want to hit the far North of Scotland. I think you'd be looking at around 4-6 nights for the Scotland trip as it is a bloody long way :) I went around the Spring Bank Half Term week and would certainly be interested if anyone fancied going around this time.
Cheers

If you're up for riding as far as inverness, then don't go to Inverness. There's nothing wrong with it but there's much better, closer.
e.g. Ayreshire, Arran, Argyl....

For those hard enough there is always the Sunny Shropshire bash at Sycos. Camping in the snow but warmed up by fantastic Thai food..:D

Looks like a plan then. I suggest we should do a run to North Wales as a starter and see how the ride pans out. The route would depend on how many miles a day everyone is comfortable with and how many hours a day we ride: only a suggestion but I would say get on the road for 9am and and finish about 6pm-ish leaving plenty of time to change and have a beer and a bite to eat on the saturday with a similar start time for Sunday and the ride back. A friday start is a good option if enough people are up for it. The route could take in some roads around the Forest of Dean and Tintern Abbey, on to Builth Wells, Dogellau and a night in or around Snowdonia national park and another route for the ride home. Unless, of course, someone can suggest a better idea :D

One problem I can see would be the riding pace for the weekend: I would suggest keeping it fairly steady and taking in the views on the smaller roads.

How does the weekend of 16/17 April sound or probably better still for a chance of better weather, the weekend 7/8th May?

I checked the map and your suggestion make a lot of sense. Arran looks cracking and would make the perfect destination for a ride out :thumb2

Bugger off its too cold!!!!! when it gets warmer i will do a ride out. allen.:ymca

End of Feb beginning of March will be warmer and it will take that long to organise :aidan

Spring ride outs

HI Andy

I will keep an eye on your plans and dates. Got to get SWMBO onto her 800 asap and get some miles under her belt. time off work is always an issue as we have other trips planned. really looking forward to the June trip and Alan's ride out in deepest Cornwall. :thumb2

Happy New Year

john & Ali :aidan

If we do the middle bit of Wales (hilly bit), we could stop off at the National Motorcycle Museum on the way back home on Sunday.:bounce1

Greetings from the County town, interested in whatever please keep me posted on dates etc. Cheers gjb

OK here it is then: The ride out is over the weekend 7/8th May. I will leave north Devon 8.30am on the Saturday. Any regulars from Cornwall or south Devon can crash at my (and other people's no doubt) place on Friday including a BBQ and getting slaughtered, I mean a beer :D.
We can be at Taunton Dean services at 10am to meet up with others who would like to join the ride out from there and we could have another stop in Wales if anyone would like to join there. We can then do some roads in and around the Forest of Dean and the Tintern road (which has been rated among the top 10 m/c roads in the UK) on to Builth Wells, Dogellau and in around Snowdonia national park with a night somewhere east of Snowdonia to change, eat and have a few beers.
Sunday morning an 8.30 start with a ride east including Iron Bridge and then over to the National Motorcycle Museum for about midday-ish: http://www.nationalmotorcyclemuseum.co.uk/museum/
a couple/three hours at the museum and then head home.
We will probably need to sort accommodation for the saturday night about 3/4 weeks in advance.

Anyone who is up for this please put your name here sometime before April.
