Something very very nasty and acidic perhaps has bitten into my screen!
got many circles about the size of a ten pence piece all over it - kinda matted off, like something caustic has made the surface opaque.

Anyone any experience of successfully polishing marks out at all?

Cheers :nenau

Sounds like petrol has splashed it - quite a common issue.

Apparently toothpaste is the way forward?

Am sure someone will come along and say why...

(either that or tell me I must have dreamt it!)

Gabriel, I guess why it would work is that Toothpaste is a mild abrasive.
I've got similar marks but on the wings. Thanks for the tip. Any preference on flavour ?

Toothpaste - and a lot of patience should work.
Done mine a few months ago.

If not...

Don't attack it with power tools - Dremmel's (while great tools) work on too small an area and are too aggressive for things like screens.

Toothpaste is good as it's water based and won't attack the screen. Some polishes like brasso or car polishes use solvents as their base which can fog acrylic screens.

The product which fatnfast links to above would be ideal - it's designed for acrylic helicopter screens which cost a bleedin' fortune and are treated with great respect.

Isn't car polish also mildly abrasive. Failing that brasso or autosol should be abrasive.

I've used Xerapol plastic polish on my screen in the past with very good results. Need to keep working at it for deeper scratches and marks but they will go in the end!

I was kidding. One will melt it with the dremel, unless one is extremely good at DIY (not me then :augie ).

I managed to remove a lot of scratches from my screen with the toothpaste and an entire night polishing it while watching tv.
The only problem is chemicals that will go deep into the screen and make it "cloudy". In that case...

"Mer" is quite good for fine scratches.

I used Merr on a petrol splashed screen, luckily when Id spashed it with fuel I rinsed it straight away and when I got home spent an hour just sat polisishing with Mer it finally came out. Good luck

Hiya, have a look here:

I've used the plexus stuff quite well on both screens & visors, originally developed for the aviation industry

I remember coming across some sort of cream/paste in my local caravan dealer which was specifically designed for this problem. It worked very well too, I can't remember what it was called but if you have a caravan dealer anywhere nearby it might be worth a visit
