Trying to find a left hand cam tensioner for my GS , heard that 1200 might be same part , any ideas out there , was out bid on last one but a few 1200s on the bay but seller has no part numbers and just says it the one with internal Spring . Many Thanks in advance . Geno

It's from a 1200 RT 04- 09 So it should fit ok . Many Thanks again .

Wasnt the one with the internal spring superceded by a different design (ie the spring doesnt pop out separate) because the older design wore out causing noise?

Seems you can now sell the old ones on ebay.... Bugger, all the times i've changed them to the new types for customers and thrown the old ones away i could have been selling them to mugs on ebay.

I'm keeping my old one until the market on eBay dries up. I should be able to make a killing then as it will also be the only one and an antique.

:D

Why would anyone reuse the old style? :nenau

are things that tight that you can afford to run a GS but have to trawl E-bay for a part instead of going to the dealership and getting the correct part?

If the stealership is too far away, get on line, go to MaxBMW in New York, get to the microfiche page, identify the part, call them up if you need to, order the part and they will send it through the post direct to your letter box.

Simples.

Think of the time / man hours and brain effort wondering if some part from a different vehicle will fit yours you could save.

Identification:

The updated Left tensioner has a 15mm hex head.

The old style has a 17mm hex

This makes it very easy to see if the bike has been upgraded or not.

Internal parts (piston and spring) are different in construction and not interchangable

Why are you disrespecting me , why not reuse parts , we are already a throw away society , plenty of bikes with new parts that can be reused and not give the stealers more money .. Thought it was the spirit of the GS , repairing and fixing them without spending a fortune . We don't all have dollars or pounds to burn . So please don't judge me for not wasting money . A few tanks of petrol saved . Just my opinion , just like assholes we all got one .

My apologies, I had no intention of disrespecting you, just going on my experience and that of my mates, it always seems to take more effort and time and consequently $$$ to try to find something from a wreckers or an alternate than to go to a proper supplier, like the stealership.

Maybe it is a result of where I/We live (far north Australia), we have limited access to alternates and different parts suppliers so find it easier to go directly.
