Anyone know what CCAPP.EXE is for...??

My PC has been playing up over the last few months and alot more of late.

I can hear the hard disk spinning away at the moment and when I look at windows task manager under processes the application "CCAPP.EXE" is using 99% of CPU which is incidently running at 100%. I've ran numerous virus checkers and all seems okay. CAn anyone advise what theis application is for and any suggestions as to how I can remedy the situation.

Something to do with Norton Anti-virus. Best to remove Norton (not the simplest of tasks tbh, do a google on removing Norton and read through it first) and replace it with something less onerous on the system, eg AVG free

Shuggie you are a Star. I have had nothing but trouble since loading Norton Internet security about 2 years ago and even more trouble when I did not renew my subscription as it was worse than befor I started. I will try and use uninstall but expect Mr Norton may have a trick or two up his sleeve. Incidently my brother suggested AVG too.

Don't forget you may also need a firewall if you are removing the Norton one.

I am sure Windows prompted me to use the inbuilt one (I think!! ), but will look into this one toinight. I haven't had a new pc for about 5 years so may treat myself to one soon.

Morning Fing, I'm pretty sure that as long as you have XP service pack 2 you don't need another firewall the windows inbuilt one is fine, I dumped zonealarm a couple of years ago and haven't had a problem

Symantec has generated a programme that completely removes the software - I bought F-Secure (OEM) instead for about £10 from Ebuyer!

Not a big fan of Microsoft Firewall because of this...But I do use P2P, Torrents and filesharing alot.

"It should be noted that Windows Firewall is not as secure as MS would want you to believe since it does half the job a commercial firewall would do; which is to block both incoming and outgoing traffic. Windows Firewall only blocks or patrols incoming traffic and it can be easily turned off by another application, possibly a worm."
