Anyone know where to get a stainless bolt kit for an 1150GS at a reasonable price?

Just got a big red screen saying web site unsafe.
Sent a message saying I think it is safe

If anyone fancied getting me a breakdown off what sizes on the 1150GS / A or anywhere I can get a list from, that would be reasonable in a kit, I don't know how many of the fasteners you would expect, all fasteners on the bike or just visible ones? As I have never bought one a stainless steel set before, I wouldn't know what would be expected in a ''set'' and I wouldn't want to disappoint, I would happily supply the sets. But I would need a decent a reasonable amount of people interested too so I can get decent prices on the fasteners. Ofcourse this includes if steppers is gonna do it on not - don't want to step on his toes... :blast

(I asked steptoe but he told me to measure them myself, which I think is fair enough :aidan was gonna replace them on my new bike, )

Is it worth spending my weekend with a steel rule and measuring up all fasteners? :nenau

post number 17...

right then, back to post number 17 (below):

any UK GSers headed out this way will find free accommodation (4**** !), if they happen to slip into their luggage my paid-for 1150 bolt kit!

seriously! and i will show you siome brilliant riding in these parts!
(or you can lie on a beach, and think of Blighty!)
Cheers

TBH, I'm not too keen to 'outsource' these kits, or any other stuff also produced by the members here.

I'd rather support someone off this forum who supply the kits - even if it takes a bit longer to get stuff together. :friday

Call keith shaw, he supplies stainless kits, i'm sure he'll give you all the sizes

Bare in mind that front end bolts differ between the model years. :D And you'll have to disassemble the headlight unit and remove the tank, remove all the gearbox bolts etc etc

Try these people, http://www.desmoparts.com/products/motorcycle-stainless-steel-screw-kits/bmw

They do 2 kits, one for the engine covers and the other for the bike in general, over 300 peices in total all bagged and with paper instructions.
At todays exchange rate about £75.00 delivered. No connection with them just satisfied with the kit and the service.

I bought their full 1150 "kit" before i did my own - for a full bike kit it's an absolute joke. :D

After looking at what it didn't cover it's why i decided to do then do my own.

Steptoe's not currently selling them and motorworks wanted £200. Steptoes kits for the 1200's are £50 so was hoping more in that sort of reason if possible.

Cheers.

This is where we get all our stuff for work from as we can only use stainless bolts and fasteners in the food industry, order what you want high tensile or standard any size any thread any head if it ain't on the web site ring them the bolts are pence each
don't get ripped off buying over priced crap from places like pro-bolt

On Xmas eve I backwashed the swimming pool, as the pump was a bit noisy...

Xmas day got up pump was noisier, so ran it for only a couple of hours a day till Bearing Man, opened yesterday, so a quick bearing change and off we go to the pub I thought

Then it started, all the old pumps all used brass bolts, I got this "new" one out, all shiny stainless bolts, quickly start to undo the bolting and "griiieek" oh yes friggin great the bolt siezes, so I have a look and yes, grade A2 stainless bolt grade A2 stainless nut..... all 6 bolts siezed:blast

Basic metalurgy rule 1, stainless on the same grade stainless it "galls" only way to undo was brute strength and shear the buggers off, give me plated bolts any time, but we dont have your salty roads:beer:

Think yourself lucky they were not into aluminium, the electrolysis between the stainless and aluminium causes serious corrosion problems.
As a rule the stainless screws / bolts are not as strong as the originals.
Plated grade 12.9 bolts for me.

I agree, but a lot of kit suppliers list A2 or A4 but not the grade.
Having said that A4-80 stainless bolts have less yield and tensile strength than normal plated 8.8 bolts.
I have seen A2 stainless bolts sold that have been little better than mild steel, some customers think that because they are stainless they must be good. :rob
